Low Bone Density Raises the Risk of Serious Fall Injuries.

Low bone mineral density may not make falls more likely, but it can make them far more serious. A recent study found that lower bone mineral density was associated with a 71% higher risk of femur fracture in the event of a fall, which can substantially reduce an older adult's ability to remain independent.

High Blood Pressure Remains the Leading Heart Disease Risk.

Disease burden refers to the overall impact of a disease on a population, including illness, disability, and risk of early death. An analysis of Global Burden of Disease data from 204 countries and territories found that high systolic blood pressure accounts for 49.7% of the global cardiovascular disease burden. The findings suggest that improving blood pressure control could substantially reduce the worldwide impact of cardiovascular disease.

SI Joint Dysfunction Can Mimic Low Back Problems.

The sacroiliac (SI) joints connect the spine to the pelvis and help transfer forces between the upper and lower body. Previous research suggests SI joint dysfunction may contribute to 15–30% of chronic low back pain cases, yet it is often overlooked. In this study, 100 patients with suspected SI joint dysfunction experienced rapid and persistent improvements in pain after SI joint manipulation. These findings suggest it may be worthwhile to consider SI joint dysfunction when low back or sciatica-like pain does not respond as expected to lumbar spine-focused treatment.
