I need to say this because I am SO tired of seeing the pentagram used as shorthand for “evil.”

I was watching a true-crime story about two boys who tortured and murdered a 15-year-old girl, claiming they were doing it to “sell their souls to the devil,” and of course there was a pentagram drawn on the wall.

And I HATE that.

The pentagram is not inherently evil. It is not automatically Satanic. For many witches and Pagans, the upright pentagram represents the five elements — Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit — and can symbolize protection, balance, and connection.

Horror movies, television, and sensationalized stories have spent decades teaching people to see a pentagram and immediately think “devil worship,” and that simply is not an accurate representation of witchcraft.

Someone committing something horrific while using a symbol does not make that symbol evil.

A pentagram can be sacred.
A pentagram can be protective.
A pentagram can represent harmony, nature, and spirit.

Please stop confusing witchcraft with evil just because horror movies told you to. 🌙✨
