Connecticut Funeral Directors Association (CFDA) Based in Wethersfield, Conn., CFDA is comprised of funeral directors at more than 220 funeral homes

Every day, we face new experiences and challenges in funeral service. Some are specific to the business of serving the family and friends of ones lost. Others are helping consumers make important decisions that are personal and meaningful to them, including planning ahead and prefunding funerals. Increasingly, our organization responds to our funeral director members' questions about trusts, taxes, marketing and licensing, and the ever-changing requisites for employees, their insurance, their rights and their responsibilities. These solutions and their resources are the business of CFDA.

Celebrating the Inaugural Northeast Funeral Women’s Collaborative!

On Wednesday, October 14, funeral service professionals from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York came together at The Publick House in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, for an inspiring evening of connection, collaboration, and professional growth.

Led by Leili McMurrough and Dr. Sandra “Sandi” Coyne-Gilbert, the program sparked meaningful conversations about leadership, mentorship, sponsorship, and building sustainable careers in funeral service.

More than just a gathering, this inaugural event marked the beginning of an exciting new professional community dedicated to supporting women at every age and stage of their careers. We look forward to building on this momentum and shaping the future of funeral service together! Look out for information on our next meeting in March 2027!

The Connecticut Funeral Directors Association and its Legislative Committee have been busy these past few days hosting legislative fundraisers at the CFDA office. Our leadership met with House Republicans, House Democrats, Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats to thank them for their work during the last legislative session and share our priorities for the session ahead. These conversations help keep the needs of funeral service professionals and the families we serve in front of lawmakers.

Strong advocacy takes participation—and support. Your voluntary contributions to the Connecticut Funeral Directors Political Action Committee (CFD-PAC) help us support candidates who understand our profession and strengthen our voice at the State Capitol. Together, we can help shape the decisions that influence the future of funeral service in Connecticut.

Have you contributed to CFD-PAC yet? Consider making a contribution today. Our profession’s future deserves our support.

Welcome to the Inaugural Northeast Funeral Women’s Collaborative

~BEYOND A SEAT AT THE TABLE~

Building careers, influence, and the future of funeral service. Women are an essential part of the present and future of funeral service. Now, we’re creating a professional community designed to help women learn, connect, advance, give back — and build meaningful, sustainable careers.

Join the Connecticut and Massachusetts Funeral Directors Associations for the inaugural Northeast Funeral Women’s Collaborative, an interactive evening created for women at every age and stage of the profession — from student and apprentice to licensee, manager, owner, educator, and experienced professional.

Featuring seminar leaders Leili McMurrough and Sandi Coyne-Gilbert, our program will explore professional relationships, leadership skills, workplace practices, and career strategies that can help funeral service professionals build sustainable and meaningful careers.

This is about more than attending another program. It is about creating a community where women can share experiences, develop professionally, support one another, and help create opportunities for the next generation.

Twenty-five years later, our responsibility remains remarkably simple: when a family needs us, we are there. Whether that call comes hours after a death or decades later, we listen. We guide. We honor. We serve.

On this 25th anniversary, may we remember those we lost, honor those who served, and recommit ourselves to the compassion, dignity, and humanity at the heart of funeral service.
