What we eat can influence how we feel and how we feel can influence how we eat. 🧠🥗

This week’s Food for Thought is all about noticing that connection.

Pay attention to your mood, focus and energy throughout the day. Are there patterns between how you're feeling and how you're nourishing yourself?

You don't have to change anything yet. Start by noticing.

Sometimes awareness is where meaningful change begins.

What do you notice about the connection between food and how you feel? Let us know in the comments below👇️

Most reactions happen fast. Someone says something that frustrates you…An email hits the wrong nerve…Your child pushes back…A plan suddenly changes.

Before you know it, emotion has become reaction.

Self-mastery isn't about eliminating frustration, anger, anxiety, or overwhelm. Those emotions are part of being human.

The practice is learning to create just a little more space between what you feel and what you do next.

Sometimes that space is only one breath, but one breath can be enough to ask:

"How do I want to respond?"

The emotion may still be there…The situation hasn't changed…But something important has…You've moved from reacting to choosing.

And every time you create that space, you're practicing the ability to remain intentional even when the moment is trying to pull you somewhere else.

You won't catch yourself every time.

That's not the goal. The goal is to make the pause a little more familiar each time you practice it.

This week's mastery:
When you feel yourself beginning to react, take one breath before responding.

One breath.
One moment.
One choice.

The pause is the practice.

Back-to-school nerves are normal.

A new teacher, a different classroom, changing routines, and new expectations can bring up worry for many children.

But sometimes anxiety looks like more than simply saying, "I'm nervous."

It may show up as:

✔️ Trouble sleeping
✔️ Frequent headaches or stomachaches
✔️ Reluctance to talk about school
✔️ Bigger emotions or more irritability
✔️ Pulling away from activities they usually enjoy

These signs do not automatically mean something is wrong. They are signals to slow down, ask questions and create space for your child to talk.

Try asking:

"What feels hardest about going back to school?"

Then listen without immediately trying to fix it.

When anxiety continues or begins interfering with sleep, school, relationships, or daily life, additional support can help children understand their feelings and develop healthy coping skills.

Sometimes we all need a little extra support navigating life's changes. Follow along this month as we share practical tips to help children and families build confidence and emotional regulation for the school year ahead.

✨ A REVELATION
Kids don't always have the words to say, "I'm anxious." Sometimes they communicate through their behavior. When we learn to look beyond the behavior and understand the feeling underneath, we create space for connection, trust, and growth.

We often think transformation happens because of one big decision.

In reality, it happens because of hundreds of small ones.

Every choice you make is a vote for the person you're becoming.

Choosing the walk.

Drinking the water.

Putting the phone down.

Pausing before reacting.

Going to bed when you said you would.

None of these decisions will change your life on their own.

But they rarely happen only once.

They happen every day.

Over time, those daily votes begin to shape your identity. Eventually, you stop acting healthy because you're trying to change and you act that way because that's who you've become.

The goal isn't to make every decision perfectly.

The goal is to make enough decisions that are aligned with your best self that they begin to change the story you believe about yourself.

This week's mastery: before making a decision, pause for just a moment and ask yourself:

"Does this choice move me toward the person I want to become?"

What you might not know is that tight hips can sometimes contribute to low back pain.

When we spend long periods sitting — at a desk, in the car, or on the couch — the muscles at the front of the hips can become tight.

Over time, that tension can place extra stress on the lower back and contribute to stiffness or discomfort.

One simple place to start is a kneeling hip flexor stretch.

Try this:
• Step into a half-kneeling position
• Keep your chest tall
• Gently shift your hips forward
• Feel the stretch in the front of the back hip
• Hold 30–45 seconds, then switch sides

You should feel the stretch in the hip, not the low back.
Small corrective exercises like this can go a long way in helping the body move — and feel — better.

Just as actions build a positive self-image, negative self-talk reinforces the old one.

A missed workout becomes: “I’m inconsistent.”
A tough day becomes: “I never stick with anything.”
A setback becomes: “This is just who I am.”

These statements don’t just describe behavior — they shape identity.

Self-mastery requires separating what you did from who you are.

One action does not define you. But repeatedly labeling yourself does.

Instead of reinforcing the old identity, simply observe the moment and move forward.

Your self-image should be built from intentional reps — not emotional reactions.

✨ This week’s mastery:
Catch yourself when you start labeling who you are based on one moment. Replace judgment with neutrality and keep moving.
