As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, we're highlighting one of the partnerships that makes The Woodlands unique.

This week, Camp Inspire brings the camp experience to children and teens who are ventilator-dependent through our partnership with UPMC Children's Hospital.

Making camp possible for these individuals requires careful planning and close collaboration. Physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, support staff, counselors, and volunteers work side by side to ensure campers can safely participate in everything camp has to offer.

Last summer we were honored to have Jackson, a Camp Inspire participant, featured on KDKA’s Talk Pittsburgh, to highlight his camp experience. You can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPC0kxH4Wuw

We are grateful to the team at UPMC Children's Hospital and to everyone who helps make Camp Inspire possible.

Celebrating 36 Years of the ADA

Earlier this month, we shared our new video, Meet The Woodlands which highlights the sense of belonging our participants experience on our campus.

The need for belonging is something we hear from families, participants, volunteers, and staff again and again. Having a place where you belong matters.

On July 26, we mark the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), landmark legislation that helped expand access and opportunity for people with disabilities across the country.

The ADA changed laws. The work of inclusion happens every day.
At The Woodlands, we see it in camp friendships, shared meals, creative projects and new experiences.

As we celebrate Disability Pride Month, we're grateful for the progress that has been madeβ€”and hopeful for the progress that is still ahead.

Celebrating Creativity and Self-Expression

Disability Pride Month is a celebration of talents, perspectives, and creativity.

This week, participants in our Teen and Young Adult Maker Camp are designing, building, and sharing ideas; and all year long we have creative art and music programs that allow participants to explore their unique artistic expression in their chosen medium with the support of professional musicians, artists and educators.

Learn more about our creative arts programs by visiting: https://mywoodlands.org/programs/music-arts/

It was a WILD time at Adult Camp Woodlands this week!

And we think it’s safe to say it was probably the first time a kangaroo has ever been on campus! (Scroll through to the end.) 🦘🀩

Thanks to our friends at Wild World of Animals for introducing us to so many cool creatures. 🐊 πŸ¦‰ πŸ¦₯

Hope to see everyone back at The Woodlands soon! ✌️

One of the most meaningful things we see at The Woodlands is the desire for connection.

We’re in the middle of our summer camp season, and each year our programs fill quickly with individuals looking for opportunities to make friends, try new things, and be part of a community.

That's the inspiration behind our message: You Belong Here.

During this Disability Pride Month, we invite you to visit our website to watch our new video, Meet The Woodlands, and see what belonging looks like.

Because everyone deserves a place where they belong.

Celebrating Disability Pride Month

Disability Pride Month is observed each July to celebrate the history, achievements, experiences, and contributions of individuals with disabilities. The month also commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990β€”a landmark civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities.

At its heart, Disability Pride Month is about recognizing that disability is a natural part of the human experience. It encourages us to move beyond awareness and toward inclusion, accessibility, belonging, and respect.

This month, we'll be sharing insight into The Woodlands community. We invite you to join us in celebrating a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
