We had a very unique presentation last week from Tami Finley and her program the The Art of the Apron. Tami shared a portion of her vast collection of aprons and lead us down the road of reminiscing about their place in our culture. We are blessed to have Pat Gade come in once a month to share stories with us. Sometimes they are just entertaining and sometimes both educational, and entertaining. Today she shared a story that was entertaining and explained the Native American process of keeping track of the year by the moons and the correlation with the back of the turtle shell. It was very interesting, thank you Pat!

It’s National Tattoo Day! We talked about tattoo history. Did you know tattoos have been a part of regional cultural history all over the world for over 5,0000 years?! We discussed our pre-conceived ideas about tattoos and their use in the US, the different cultural meanings behind them in indigenous societies, and the reasons behind their prevalence today. Everyone was given the opportunity to sport a temporary tattoo and 3 ladies decided to go for it! A few staff members jumped in too. Julie showed us larger tattoos on her legs.
