We wrote an article about the parts of new parenthood people tend to go through quietly, and this carousel is the short version of it.
It covers seven challenges: postpartum depression and anxiety, postpartum OCD and PTSD, baby blues that turn into burnout, identity shifts and relationship strain, perfectionism and the fear of getting it wrong, post-adoption depression and financial stress, and loneliness, including how it tends to land differently for mothers and for fathers.
It also covers the practical part. Keep a small daily routine. Simplify what actually has to get done. Rest when you can. Accept help when someone offers it. Stay connected to people who care about you. And when that is not enough, the article walks through what support can look like, from individual and couples therapy to support groups, parenting classes, nurse home visits, and medical care when it is needed.
If you need someone right now: Postpartum Support International, 1-800-944-4773, or call or text 988.
