Being “cleared” after birth doesn’t always mean you feel recovered.

A recent systematic review of 38 studies found that postpartum recovery can be influenced by factors such as cesarean birth, significant tearing, assisted delivery, induction, infant birthweight, and the emotional experience of birth.

But recovery is about more than pain or tissue healing. It includes moving comfortably, caring for your baby, returning to exercise and work, participating in the activities you enjoy, and feeling at home in your body again.

If you’re experiencing leaking, pelvic pressure, pain, scar sensitivity, painful s*x, core weakness, or difficulty returning to everyday activities, pelvic floor PT can help.

You don’t have to wait for symptoms to become severe and you don’t need to figure out recovery alone.

Constipation support goes way beyond “drink more water and eat more fiber.”

As pelvic floor PTs, we look at how your breathing, pelvic floor coordination, abdominal wall, nervous system, toileting habits, and daily routines all impact your ability to fully empty.

Sometimes the issue isn’t that you aren’t trying hard enough.

Sometimes your body needs help coordinating.

If you’re straining, feeling stuck, dealing with incomplete emptying, relying on laxatives, or feeling like you’ve tried everything, pelvic floor PT may be able to help you figure out the “why.”

Meet Dr. Cortney, the newest pelvic floor PT at Chicago Pelvic Health & Wellness! ✨

Dr. Cortney’s interest in pelvic floor therapy started in grad school with one big question: “What is this part of the body everyone keeps talking about?” After her first class, she was hooked.

She loves helping patients feel safe talking about symptoms that can feel sensitive, frustrating, or hard to explain. Her goal is to create a welcoming space where patients feel heard, supported, and empowered to understand the “why” behind what they’re experiencing.

Dr. Cortney recently moved here from Columbia, Missouri, and outside the clinic she loves reading, aerial arts, and trying to keep her plants alive. 🪴

We’re so excited to have her on our team. Help us give Dr. Cortney a warm welcome!

Men have pelvic floors too, and pelvic floor symptoms deserve better answers than “just live with it.”

Pelvic floor dysfunction in men can show up as:

🔹urinary urgency or frequency
🔹 post-void dribbling
🔹 pain with sitting, cycling, lifting, or s*x
🔹 pelvic, testicular, pe**le, or re**al pain
🔹 constipation or difficulty emptying
🔹 ej*******on or erectile dysfunction
🔹 diastasis recti or difficulty managing core pressure

And no, pelvic PT is not just for women or postpartum patients.

For many men, these symptoms are connected to how the pelvic floor, core, diaphragm, hips, nervous system, and pressure system are working together.

Sometimes the issue is tension.
Sometimes it’s coordination.
Sometimes it’s weakness.
Sometimes it’s a pressure management problem.

And sometimes it’s been ignored for way too long.

If you or someone you love has been dealing with these symptoms, send this to them.

Men deserve pelvic health care too.

The answer isn’t walking around tucking your pelvis or clenching your butt all day.

A few things that can help in the moment:

✅wiggle your knees
✅keep a soft bend in your knees
✅think about letting your tailbone float down
✅prop one foot on a stool when standing for a while

But the longer-term fix usually isn’t “fixing your posture” every day.

It’s improving the strength of your:
🔹hamstrings
🔹glutes
🔹lower abdominals

So your body has more support and doesn’t have to rely on that arched-back, tipped-forward position all the time.

Save this if you’ve been trying to tuck your pelvis all day and wondering why it’s not working.
