The Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS) is speaking out against insurance policies that restrict access to interbody biomechanical devices used in cervical fusion surgery.

Modern cervical fusion implants, including advanced PEEK and titanium cages, are an established part of the standard of care and play a critical role in restoring alignment, promoting fusion, and optimizing patient outcomes. Restricting surgeon access to these technologies interferes with physician judgment, limits patient care options, and threatens continued innovation in spine surgery.

โ€œSpine surgeons need to have a say in whatโ€™s best for our patients and this overriding control and suppression of the care for our patients needs to stop.โ€ Neel Anand, MD, President, SMISS
