My experience as a PT patient number 2 - bilateral shoulder pain
Takeaways (note beforehand, not taking any shots at the staff that rendered the care, it is the system rather than any team of therapists or individual therapists):
1. In this system, patient volume is so high staff doesn’t have a choice but prescribe cookie cutter exercises
2. Communication in between session was non-existent; no follow up until I came back in for my next visit, at which point I’d likely have wasted 24-72 hours doing the same exercises
3. Plan could not be established beyond PT; “okay, shoulders are now better, how do I get back to lifting and exercising?”
4. Billed insurance…still pretty hefty bill at the end of the day; some insurances help out in an okay way, some still have a pretty hefty out of pocket cost, deductibles, copays, max number of visits, or just stop your care completely (what’s up with that?)
I discovered the system was stuck in a cycle that it couldn’t get out of. It relied on volume and was sacrificing the extension of care that would make patients not just better and out of pain, but stronger and more resilient than before
If this sounds like you and your experience with PT, I would invite you to explore something different
