“This designation represents years of dedication, collaboration, and belief in the importance of Woodland Cemetery,” said John Mitchell, Executive Director of the Woodland Restoration Foundation. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their time, expertise, and support. This moment allows us to expand our restoration efforts and deepen community engagement around this historic site.”

Woodland Cemetery, a historic African American burial ground founded in 1917, has been officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Are your staff trained to spot AI‑generated errors before families do?
Artificial intelligence is already shaping how funeral professionals write, organize, communicate, and serve families. Learn how to approach AI as a support tool without compromising compassion, trust, or professional judgment.

"Proponents, like bill author Eddy Dempsey, R-Valliant, say it’s a personal choice for both individuals and funeral homes.

"Maryland residents are increasingly rethinking what happens to their bodies after death, fueling demand for alternatives that turn human remains into soil, dissolve them in water instead of flame, or bury them beneath forests instead of rows of headstones.

Do you know the history you’re standing on?
Ignite the spirit of the past as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of modern cremation in North America, honoring cremation's transformation from a radical fringe experiment into the gold standard of deathcare. More than just a retrospective, this session from Jäson Ryan Engler is an upbeat tribute to our shared heritage and a forward-looking rally cry for the professionals who continue to lead the way in dignity, art, and innovation.
