Ahoy from PAI–Oakdale! The pirate theme connected directly to current programming, as participants are reading Treasure Island in book club. Throughout the day, participants embraced the theme with pirate-inspired activities, conversations about the story, and plenty of smiles along the way.

Connecting themes like this to book club helps make reading more engaging while encouraging participation, creativity, and social connection among peers. It was a day full of adventure, laughter, and shared enthusiasm for the story they’ve been exploring together.⚓

PAI-Parkway participants recently took a trip to Walmart’s garden center to pick out flowers and plants to help brighten the outside of their program site!

From choosing colorful blooms to discussing the best combinations for the outdoor spaces, everyone played a role in creating a more welcoming environment. Along the way, participants practiced decision-making, budgeting, community navigation and teamwork while working toward a shared goal.

We can't wait to see these beautiful plants grow and transform the space with color and life in the weeks ahead. Great job to everyone who helped make this project bloom! 🌼

PAI-Linden recently turned their Creative Expression time into a hands-on culinary class — and the menu item of the day was “dirt” pudding! 🍫

Participants had a great time measuring ingredients, mixing everything together and getting creative while building important skills in the kitchen. From teamwork and following the recipe to making choices and trying something new, the class was filled with learning, laughter and plenty of sweet treats. And yes… the "dirt" pudding was a hit!

PAI-Commerce recently welcomed the White Bear Center for the Arts for another wonderful art class! This session focused on saying hello to summer through colors, creativity and seasonal-inspired artwork. ☀️🎨

Participants had the opportunity to express themselves artistically, explore different materials and techniques, and create unique pieces celebrating the start of the summer season. It was great to see everyone’s creativity shine in different ways throughout the class!

PAI-Parkway brought the friendly competition during their Social Skills Bingo game! Social Skills Bingo provides a supportive and engaging setting that allows participants to grow at their own pace while building healthy communication with peers, staff, employers, family members, and the broader community, making it easier to navigate daily interactions and feel connected to others!

Learning and practicing social skills can also help people:
🌟Build friendships and reduce feelings of isolation
🌟Improve self-advocacy and express wants, needs and boundaries
🌟Increase confidence in community activities and social environments
🌟Develop problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills

Starting the morning with movement and teamwork at PAI-Parkway 🏀

Participants recently spent part of their Morning Movement Activity playing basketball — practicing their shots, cheering each other on and getting active together. From made baskets to friendly competition, the court was full of energy and encouragement!

Movement-based activities help participants stay active, build coordination and create opportunities for teamwork and social connection — all while having fun along the way.

A big thank you to a Newtrax driver and guardian who generously took time to help spruce up the outside of PAI–Linden by planting and arranging flower pots 🌸

Their effort added a fresh, welcoming touch to the building’s exterior and is a great example of community members stepping in to support and care for shared spaces. Small acts like this help create a warm environment for everyone who walks through our doors!

We’re in the final days of our Open Doors to Community spring campaign, and we’re getting closer to our $18,000 goal every day! Throughout this campaign, we’ve shared stories of confidence, independence, creativity, and connection happening every day at PAI.

Terri recently spent time exploring Sephora during a community outing focused on self-care and personal choice. From testing different scents to browsing products that matched her interests, the experience gave her the opportunity to make choices, try something new, and confidently engage in the community.

There’s still time to help us cross the finish line and create more opportunities for participants to explore their interests, build independence and strengthen community connections.
