There are 4 main hormones that regulate fertility!
๐Ÿงžโ€โ™€๏ธ FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone)
๐Ÿงžโ€โ™€๏ธ LH (Luteinizing Hormone)
๐Ÿงžโ€โ™€๏ธ Estrogen
๐Ÿงžโ€โ™€๏ธ Progesterone
Each hormone has a very specialized role.
It's important to have a solid understanding of your hormones so you can be informed, feel empowered, and be engaged in making decisions about your body and fertility journey!

Did you know s***m can live in the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days?
For your best chance at conception, either through in*******se or insemination, s***m should be waiting in the fallopian tubes when an egg is released at ovulation.
This means your best fertile window is the 4 days leading up to + the day of ovulation. ๐Ÿฅš
Check out my recent blog post โœ on the fertile window, including the clues ๐Ÿ” to look for in the days leading up to ovulation & tips for timing in*******se or insemination.

I don't know about you but when I stop nourishing myself everything else in my life falls apart. ๐Ÿ˜ซ
I encourage you to do a self check in. Just like you do with all the people you love. โœ”
๐Ÿค” Are my needs being met?
๐Ÿค” Do I feel rested?
๐Ÿค” Am I fed?
๐Ÿค” Am I setting healthy boundaries?
๐Ÿค” What is it that I love and how do I include more of that in my life?
๐Ÿค” Am I staying connected to people, places, and activities that add to my joy?
While a spa day is nice, self care is daily practice. A daily ritual of self love.

How Do I Know If I'm Ovulating?
There are several ways to predict, detect, & confirm ovulation. Basal Body Temperature (BBT) is one way to detect ovulation.
During the 1st part of the menstrual cycle (before ovulation), BBT is usually between 97-98 degrees Fahrenheit. ๐ŸŒก About 1 day before ovulation, BBT will generally reach its lowest point. After ovulation, in response to progesterone, BBT will begin to rise, anywhere from .4-1 degree F. It will bounce around a little but should remain elevated throughout the luteal phase (2nd half of the menstrual cycle) until progesterone starts to decline 1-2 days before menstrual bleeding.
If ovulation doesn't occur, you won't see the characteristic bump in temperature because, without ovulation, the follicle will not transition to a corpus luteum and release progesterone, which is a thermogenic hormone.
Historically, BBT has been taken orally, ๐Ÿค’1st thing in the morning before getting out of bed ๐Ÿ›, with a special thermometer that measures 1/100th of a degree. There are many variations of this, from low-tech digital to high-tech smart thermometers that sync with an app on your phone that also track a million other things. Most recently, I've been using a wearable device that goes on my arm called . I had several clients that loved it, and I wanted to check it out for myself. It also syncs with an app on my phone, not throughout the night, but when I tell it to. So there is no communication happening while I sleep. So far, it's great! I'll post about it after I've tried it for a few weeks.

Some of you know my love of botanical medicine and gardening. Both have filled my cup for nearly two decades and bring my heart tremendous joy! I'm always digging into the historical ethnobotanical information, the super nerdy bench science, and clinical research and trying to figure out if there is any way I can include these plants as medicine to blend our ever essential need for nature as part of health.

Each year in the Spring as I start to see the plants emerge from our cold winter in Minnesota I literally feel the excitement of a five-year-old on her birthday.

One of the first plants to emerge and flower in my garden is Sanguinaria canadensis. Preparations have historically been used as a topical agent, orally as a mouthwash, and internally as a homeopathic remedy. Medicinal use of this plant has gotten a lot of bad press over the past few decades. However, in vitro studies have shown, even as recent as 2021, that its plant constituents are effective against melanoma cell lines. I'm definitely not suggesting that you go out and start using an extract of this plant's root, in fact, I'm recommending against it. This plant can be toxic and does have potentially negative consequences in all of its applications when used improperly. I'm simply sharing her story as I'm reminded of her beauty each year when she returns to my garden.

Joy and connecting with nature are fundamental to whole health resilience, immunity, gut health and microbial diversity, fertility, and self-care. If you're interested in reading more about this concept you can check out my blog on the topic by clicking this link

I will continue to share more of my garden as she births herself over the coming months.

Food Sensitivities Are A Common Source of Inflammation and Could Be Influencing Your Fertility!

Though these reactions to food are less pronounced than an allergic IgE response (think peanut allergy!), they still promote chronic low-grade inflammation and many, often seemingly unrelated symptoms. The confusion around these responses can be compounded by their delayed onset of up to 72 hours.

Check out my most recent blog on Inflammation for more info and consider food reactions in the bigger picture of your health!
