Together, we will explore the role of neurodiversity in children's media, discuss the impact of the Emmy Award-winning Carl the Collector, and share why authentic representation matters - not only for autistic children, but for families, educators, and communities seeking to create a more inclusive world.

The stories children see on screen can shape how they view themselves and how others view them. For autistic children, authentic representation can foster confidence, belonging, and a powerful sense of being truly seen.

Whether you're a parent, educator, professional, self-advocate, or someone who cares deeply about autism and inclusion, this promises to be a meaningful and inspiring conversation.

WLA/SPED*NET: Teaching Autistic Children - A Way that Works with Robert J. Bernstein. This is an in-person presentation!

We want our autistic children to live happy and successful lives. Many parents, however, often approach their kids with an agenda: instead of offering acceptance and approval, they want their child to do something differently—to change. Consequently, autistic kids frequently feel that who they are is not who we want them to be. They end up hiding their authentic nature and keeping up a facade. Learn to interact with your children using the Bernstein Cognitive Method - a way that truly works!

Date: Wednesday, April 29, 2026
Time: 10:30am–12:30pm
Wilton Library: Brubeck Room

During this presentation, he will discuss how to completely focus on your child, do things to captivate their attention, follow their lead, and create an accepting, non-judgmental space for them to engage, assimilate new information, and develop new thoughts and behaviors.

Today is Autism Acceptance Day, and April is Autism Acceptance Month. Come explore how "awareness" simply recognizes that autistic individuals exist, while "acceptance" means creating real inclusion, offering understanding, opportunities, and a genuine seat at the table. The conversation highlights challenges many people on the autism spectrum face, including masking, fear of disclosure, and the impact of ableism in workplaces, schools, and daily life.

This episode encourages viewers to reflect on their own assumptions and biases, and reminds us that neurodiversity is part of human diversity. People are people—regardless of neurotype, background, or identity.

Join us as we discuss these important questions and advocate for understanding, respect, and meaningful inclusion.
