Over the years, I’ve learned that food is rarely just about food.
When someone tells me they turn to food when they’re stressed, lonely, overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted, I don’t hear a lack of willpower.
I hear someone trying to meet a need.
Food may have become comfort because comfort was needed.
And while food can absolutely soothe us in the moment, healing often begins when we get curious about what we’re really hungry for underneath it all.
More support.
More rest.
More connection.
More joy.
More space to feel what we’re feeling.
The goal isn’t to judge the coping strategy. The goal is to understand it.
Because when we understand why a behavior developed, we’re much better equipped to create change with compassion instead of criticism.
