Anxiety is a reaction that protects us from danger. However, sometimes we feel anxious even when we are not in danger. For example, feeling anxious about going back to school might make you want to avoid peers, skip class, or stay home altogether. In such situations, facing what you fear or doing an "opposite action" may be the right thing to do do. Opposite action means noticing that urge and gently doing the opposite when the emotion doesn’t fit the situation.
For example, if you feel anxious about interacting with peers, instead of avoiding them by not going to school or isolating yourself, try approaching a peer and introducing yourself or asking a question. You don’t have to feel confident at first; sometimes taking a small step that is opposite of your urge can help your confidence grow!

The young adults do not need to be in treatment, though this group was designed as a companion program to CBC's SAGE program. Registration is now open for Cognitive & Behavioral Consultants of Westchester and Manhattan's Fall OCD Intensive program for adolescents!

In this four-day CBT program with a strong focus on intensive exposure and response prevention practice, adolescents who struggle with OCD will learn tools to manage OCD, face their fears, improve day-to-day functioning and accomplish their goals. Research shows that intensive CBT treatments lead to more powerful short term gains than weekly treatments, and that weekly treatments are necessary to build on and maintain these gains. Participants will engage in both group and individualized exposure and response prevention practice to maximize benefits. Given that intensive programs lead to rapid gains, this program is recommended as an intermittent booster and/or as a jump-start to ongoing individual treatment.

SAGE Foundations is a 6-week intensive outpatient DBT program that helps young adults achieve emotional and behavioral stability and transition to more independence. The program includes a supportive DBT Skills group with other young adults that meets in person in White Plains, NY: from 10:00am-12:30pm (EST) three mornings per week: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Virtual options are also available. Participants can begin on a rolling basis any week during May thru September, and will also have at least one session per week with an individual DBT therapist.

Our SAGE Progressions program is also available to those who complete this program, which offers ongoing DBT treatment, CBT treatment to overcome avoidance, and executive functioning skills training.
