Someone commented on my last video, “This goes both ways. Women need to do the work too.”

And YES. 👏🏼

I’m not here to villainize men, blame men, or suggest that women are somehow perfect partners.

This work goes both ways.

Both people bring their own wounds, nervous system patterns, communication habits, expectations, and behaviors into a relationship.

Both people have accountability.

But here’s the distinction I think gets lost:

Taking accountability for your part does NOT mean taking responsibility for your partner’s.

You can work on yourself without carrying the entire relationship.

You can have compassion for your partner without excusing unhealthy behavior.

And you can recognize your own patterns while still expecting your partner to work on theirs.

The goal isn’t men vs. women.

It’s two people becoming more self-aware, emotionally responsible, and willing to grow.

That’s the relationship work I care about teaching. 🤍

Because healthy love requires BOTH people to show up.

If your woman keeps saying “you don’t love me” or “you don’t care about me,” don’t immediately defend yourself.

Just listen.

Because underneath those words might be a much more vulnerable message:

“I don’t feel connected to you.”
“I miss you.”
“I don’t feel important to you right now.”
“I need reassurance.”

And no, that doesn’t automatically mean you’re doing something wrong.

It also doesn’t mean you have to agree with the accusation.

But if you immediately respond with,
“Of course I love you. What are you talking about?”
you may accidentally turn a bid for connection into a debate about whether her feelings are valid.

Try:

“I hear you. Help me understand what’s making you feel that way.”

That one question can completely change the conversation.

Because sometimes your partner isn’t asking you to prove that you love her.

She’s asking you to slow down enough to understand how she’s experiencing the relationship.

And women—this goes both ways—your partner isn’t a mind reader either.

If you want something different, learn to communicate the need underneath the criticism instead of expecting them to decode it.

Healthy relationships aren’t about winning the argument.

They’re about getting curious enough to find the real problem underneath it. 🤍

Save this for the next time you hear “you don’t care about me.”

And if you and your partner are ready to actually practice these skills together, comment WORKBOOK and I’ll send you my Couples Somatic Workbook.

Speaking from experience, this is the translation of what your partner means when they say, “you don’t care about me.”

You’re not bad at relationships just because you don’t know what to do when things get hard.

A lot of men were never taught how to navigate emotional conflict.

So when their partner is upset, they do what feels logical:

Try To Fix it.
Over explain it.
Defend themselves.
Shut down.
Give her space. (more than needed)
Try to make the problem disappear.

But sometimes what your partner needs most isn’t another solution.

She needs to feel that you’re still with her while things are uncomfortable.

That takes nervous system regulation, emotional awareness, communication skills, and the ability to repair when you inevitably get it wrong.

And no, that doesn’t mean you have to become someone you’re not.

It means learning how to stay connected to yourself AND your partner when your nervous system wants to protect you.

That is a skill.

And you can get better at it.

If you’re ready to actually practice these skills instead of just talking about them, comment WORKBOOK and I’ll send you my Couples Somatic Workbook — something you and your partner can work through together. 🤍
