Meet Kinship and Adoption Navigator at The Buckeye Ranch Lena, who has been raising hope for kinship families for over a year and a half!

Her journey in social work began by with helping children with behavioral health challenges, before she moved into foster care licensing. Now, she supports relatives who step in to care for children as kinship caregivers. Kinship families face unique challenges: limited resources, legal hurdles, and emotional strain – all while trying to provide a stable and loving home. Lena saw the gap for support these families were facing, and stepped up to fill the need.

As a Kinship and Adoption Navigator, Lena walks alongside families, advocating for their needs, and helping them access OhioKAN support and other resources and support they deserve.

For Lena, social work isn’t just a job. It’s about showing up for families and helping them come together to help youth thrive against all odds. She shares that working with families at The Buckeye Ranch has only deepened her commitment to making a real, lasting difference in the lives of children, youth, and families every day.

Help bridge cultures, strengthen families, and expand access to mental health support in our community.

🌍💙 The Buckeye Ranch is hiring a Mental Health Specialist to join our Somali Outreach program. In this role, you'll work directly with Somali youth and families, helping them navigate mental health challenges, cultural adjustment, and community resources while building meaningful connections that foster healing and resilience.

As a member of our Somali Outreach team, you will:

✨ Educate families and community members about mental health
✨ Facilitate youth groups, educational workshops, and prevention activities
✨ Support refugee families during the resettlement process
✨ Partner with schools to provide groups, academic support, and individual sessions
✨ Connect families with vital community resources and services
✨ Advocate for children and families as they navigate complex systems

We're looking for someone who:

✅ Has a bachelor's degree in a human services-related field
✅ Is fluent in Somali and/or Arabic and English
✅ Holds a QMHS credential
✅ Has 2 years of experience supporting youth and families in behavioral health, education, or community-based settings
✅ Is passionate about culturally responsive care and community engagement
✅ Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor or license eligibility preferred

Every healing journey looks different and is composed of many moments and experiences that create change.

At The Buckeye Ranch's Residential Treatment campus, Small Animal Therapy offers youth a unique, evidence-informed way to build connections, process emotions, and develop new skills alongside 15 resident animals, from rabbits and chinchillas to turtles, parrots, geckos, and even snakes!

Guided by our clinicians, every interaction is intentionally designed to support each young person's therapeutic journey and help them discover their strengths in a safe, supportive environment.

Small Animal Therapy is just one example of the innovative programs helping youth heal, grow, and build brighter futures at The Buckeye Ranch.
