Fourth of July, vacations, backyard parties… this time of year brings a variety of activities, which sometimes throw off daily routines and social settings. And while many enjoy the outdoor activities that come with the warmer days, the food-centric atmosphere can feel challenging for those managing their eating disorder recovery.

At Center for Discovery, we want you to navigate this sun-soaked season with some helpful tips:

1. Communicate openly with your support team about how you’re feeling.
2. Remember your coping skills, such as bringing a fidget to a party or taking a moment to breathe and reset.
3. Have an accountability meal if you get off track.

For more tips to help you feel comfortable participating in this year’s summer events, head to our blog at the link: https://hubs.la/Q04n4LQX0.

Healing, growth and a positive relationship with food is possible with the Center for Discovery dietary program.

With the CARE-CFD Model, you have up to 3 plans to support you for any specific meal or snack; use what works best for you:
1) Center: Provides a foundation when your disorder is activated.
2) Flex: Offers opportunities to practice making diverse choices that support your nutrition goals.
3) Discovery: Increases flexibility that fosters even more choice and curiosity.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate love, acceptance and equality. But it’s also a time to recognize that those in the LGBTQIA+ community can be more impacted by mental health conditions, including eating disorders.

The unsettling fact is that LGBTQIA+ youth can experience more stress, discrimination, violence, bullying, social pressure and isolation than their heterosexual peers.

At Center for Discovery, we provide a safe and inclusive environment for people to heal from an eating disorder. We believe that everyone's authentic experiences and identities should be recognized — it's why we prioritize cultivating an atmosphere that helps patients feel supported and seen during their recovery journey.

For stats, resources and stories from those in the LGBTQIA+ community who have been there, visit our support page at the following link: https://hubs.la/Q04jMD-B0.

As we wind down Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to share a few quick tips about how to prioritize your mental health:

1. Take a walk. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes, the fresh air and movement can do wonders for your mind.

2. Create a healthy sleep pattern. One way to do this is by cutting off screen time an hour before bed (you have our full permission!).

3. Journal about small things that make you happy. Maybe it’s reading a book with a cup of tea. Perhaps it’s having a fun chat on the phone with a good friend. When you write down these little things, you can reflect on how they bring you joy.

There are so many other ways you can prioritize your mental state, but we see these as a good start.

And if you haven’t been able to focus on your well-being because of an eating disorder, we are here to help. Prioritize yourself today by visiting the LINK IN OUR BIO.
