MONDAY MOM TIP 🤍

Your breasts do NOT have to feel full or firm for your baby to be getting plenty of milk.

In the early days, you may notice your breasts feel very full between feeds. But as your milk supply regulates, your breasts often become softer even though they are still making milk.

Think of it this way:

🍼 Full breasts ≠ more milk available
🍼 Soft breasts ≠ empty breasts

Your baby’s diaper output, swallowing at the breast, feeding behavior and growth are much more useful clues about milk intake than how “full” your breasts feel.

So if you’re a few weeks or months into breastfeeding and suddenly thinking, “My breasts feel so soft… did my milk supply disappear?”

Take a breath, mama. 🤍

Soft breasts can be a normal sign of a regulated milk supply.

Sometimes the lactation visit is about the latch.

Sometimes it’s about milk supply, pumping, positioning, oral function or figuring out why feeding just isn’t going the way you pictured.

And sometimes… it’s sitting on the couch with another mom and finally hearing:

“I see how hard you’re trying.” 🤍

Lactation care isn’t therapy but having someone sit beside you, listen to you, validate what you’re experiencing and help you make a plan can feel pretty therapeutic.

Because feeding a baby can be emotional, exhausting, beautiful, frustrating, and overwhelming… sometimes all in the same day.

You deserve support through that part too. 🫶🏼

A little business update from At First Latch 🤍

One of the things that has always been important to me is making lactation care accessible. Especially during those early postpartum days when getting yourself, a newborn, a diaper bag and everything else out the door can feel like an Olympic event. 😅

That’s why I love being able to come to you!

Unfortunately, insurance reimbursement doesn’t always reflect the additional time and expenses involved in providing in-home care and recent reimbursement changes have made me take a closer look at what is sustainable for my small practice.

Beginning September 1, UnitedHealthcare covered home visits will have a $50 home visit fee. Your covered lactation services will still be billed to insurance; this fee helps cover the additional travel time and expenses associated with bringing care directly to your home.

I know adding any out-of-pocket expense during the postpartum period matters, and this wasn’t a decision I made lightly. My goal is actually the opposite of taking something away. I want to find a way to continue offering home visits AND continue working with insurance whenever possible.

I am currently reviewing my home visit policies for other insurance plans as well and I will always communicate any changes with families ahead of time.

Thank you for supporting a local small business and trusting me to be part of such an intimate season of your family’s life. It truly means so much to me. 🤍

*Home-visit fees apply where permitted by insurance/provider agreements.

At First Latch is now offering custom fl**ge fitting appointments!✨🤭

If you’re struggling with low supply it may not be your pump, it might be your fl**ge size.

Courtney has fl**ges from size 10mm to 38mm with attachments to test on almost every breast pump on the market.

Finding the right fl**ge size is like Cinderella and the glass slipper. You can make the wrong fl**ge size work but it is super uncomfortable. 👸🏼👠

Don’t settle for “it’s okay.”
Book your fl**ge consult today and make pumping suck a little less.🤍

One of my favorite tools for those first sleepy newborn days? Your own two hands. 🤲🏼🤍

Those first 24–48 hours can be a rollercoaster especially when everyone is exhausted. Some babies latch beautifully and then some are completely uninterested in waking up to eat. 😴

That’s where hand expression can be such a valuable skill.

Expressing colostrum can help stimulate your breasts while giving you precious drops that can be collected and offered to baby when needed. And remember, colostrum comes in SMALL amounts! So those tiny drops absolutely count as a feeding!✨

If you’re still in the hospital, ask your nurse or lactation consultant to show you how to hand express before you go home. Even if breastfeeding seems to be going perfectly, it’s a skill worth having in your back pocket.

📌 Save this for your hospital stay & send it to an expecting mama!

Your feeding goals belong to YOU. 🤍

Success might mean exclusively breastfeeding.
It might mean pumping.
It might mean combo feeding.
It might mean finally getting a pain-free latch.
It might mean deciding that the original plan isn’t working anymore.

My goal will never be to decide what success should look like for your family.

My job is to listen, give you good information, support your goals, and help you feel confident in the decisions you make.

Because feeding support should feel supportive. 🤍

Nobody hands you a breastfeeding manual when they hand you the baby. 🥲

There is SO much I wish moms were told before they’re exhausted, hormonal, sore, and trying to figure out how to feed a brand-new human at 2 a.m.

So consider this your reminder: you don’t have to know everything, and you don’t have to wait until things are falling apart to ask for support. 🤍

Here for you from the very first latch.

Breastfeeding might be a one-woman job… but supporting breastfeeding definitely isn’t. 👏🏼

Partners: you may not be able to nurse the baby, but you CAN wash the pump parts, refill her water, bring the snacks, change the diapers, burp the baby, clean the bottles, and make sure she gets to sit down for five freaking minutes. 😂

Sometimes breastfeeding support looks a whole lot like standing at the kitchen sink. 🫶🏼

Tag the partner who knows their way around a fl**ge. 😂

Not to be dramatic, but texts like these are my love language. 🥹🤌🏼

Watching a mom go from questioning whether it’s even possible… to absolutely crushing the goals SHE set for herself will never get old.

You think I’m tacky? Baby, keep talking dirty to me. 💅🏼😂
