A Fourth of July weekend gentle reminder

A Gentle Reminder for Fourth of July Weekend

Not everyone is celebrating.

For some, loud noises activate the nervous system. Family gatherings can bring up old patterns. Crowds may feel overwhelming. Even expectations to “have fun” can create stress.

If you notice yourself becoming triggered this weekend, pause before judging yourself.

Try this:

* Feel your feet on the ground.
* Take one slow breath that is slightly longer on the exhale.
* Look around and name five things you can see.
* Place one hand on your heart or your abdomen and simply notice what you’re feeling without trying to change it.
* Ask yourself, “What do I need in this moment?”

You don’t have to force yourself to stay in situations that feel overwhelming. It’s okay to step outside, take a quiet break, leave early, or choose rest instead.

Regulation isn’t about never being triggered.

It’s about recognizing what’s happening, responding with kindness, and helping your body find its way back to safety.

If this weekend feels difficult, know that you’re not alone. One breath, one moment, one choice at a time.
