I may or may not have said this one last week...🫢😅

One of the benefits of working with a local doula is we kinda know a thing or two about the local OBs!

And if you come to me saying that your main goal is to avoid a c-section, then in the same breath tell me you’ve chosen Mr. or Mrs. C-section as your provider...I’m gonna have you ask them their c-section rate 😅

You deserve to have a provider you feel confident trusting with your birth plan!

At some point, almost everyone reaches a moment where they’re like:

“Absolutely not. I have reached my limit.”

Meanwhile, your cervix is like:
That’s cute. We’re at 5 cm. 💀

The reassuring truth? You don’t have to know you can handle 12 more hours.

You don’t even have to think about 12 more hours.

You just have to get through this next contraction.

“One closer to baby”.

•

I was recently at a birth where the laboring mother said in her exhaustion “I can’t do this anymore!”

So her doula said “you can do ONE more”
..and she did!
..and another
..and another
..until 12 hours had passed and baby was finally in her arms.

Because labor has a funny way of making “I literally cannot do this” feel very, very convincing.

And then somehow…

you still do it. 😂🤍

I think I unlocked a new emotion today...

It's the feeling of getting to watch someone become parents for the FIRST time...and then getting to watch as their family grew for a second time 🥹

Being invited into your birth is an intimate honor, and something I hold as truly precious.

This particular birth was doubly special for two reasons:

1. It was my FIRST repeat client

and

2. She got her dream VBAC 😆

This mama worked so hard to prepare for a natural childbirth during her first pregnancy, but when baby would not flip from a breech position she gave birth via cesarean.

So in many ways, this was not only a redemptive birth story for her, but also for me too.

I felt a unique sense of closure getting to witness and support her through the birth she had wanted years ago...

Being your doula feels in some ways like being a part of your family. To know that I am even the smallest part of all these mamas families is...such a treasure 💛

At her postpartum visit, something this mama said will stick with me forever...

Like many others, she told me "I couldn't have done it without you"

And like I tell each and every other mama...YOU did the hard work!

but then she explained it like this...she said ⬇️

"I've gone skydiving before."

And just like being strapped into the skydiving instructor gave her the confidence that she could safely jump out of that plane, having me as her doula...as her "birth instructor"...she felt the same calm reassurance that she could undoubtedly do this.
..

and I don't know! Something about that analogy just felt perfect 😊

I think it explains why continuous labor support is SO heavily backed by research to improve outcomes!

Because birth isn't just about the physical support, it's also about the emotional.

It's about having someone to give you the faith and confidence that you too can bring your baby into this world

Happy birthday, Arabella 💕

Planning an unmedicated birth in the hospital?

As patients, we have to be good detectives to figure out if our provider is the right fit for our birth

🚩 Watch out for these red flags when choosing your OB:

❌ “I don’t like doulas.”
A provider who’s uncomfortable with you having support in the room may not be comfortable with you having a voice, either.

❌ “We’ll just see how it goes.”
Vague answers often signal a lack of commitment to your unmedicated birth goals.

❌ “We don’t allow anyone to go past 40 weeks.”
Rigid policies can lead to pressure and unnecessary intervention.

❌ Dismisses your birth plan or skips over it entirely.
If they’re not interested in your plan now, they’re not likely to follow it later.

Unmedicated birth in a hospital is absolutely possible—but only when you’re surrounded by the right team.

✨ Trust your gut. Ask the hard questions. And don’t be afraid to switch providers if something feels off.

Doulas support alllllll types of birth…
so what does it mean when I say I’m a hospital birth doula? ⬇️

The large MAJORITY (98-99%!) of births in the U.S. happen in hospitals, not at home or in birth centers.

👉🏻That means most women are navigating interventions, routines, and policies designed for medical models — not necessarily for their personal birth goals.

Think of it like walking into a Taco Bell asking for sushi! 😉 the system just isn’t designed for physiologic birth.

But here’s another eye-opener:

Even though many women WANT extra support, only about 6–10% of moms actually hire a doula

That leaves MOST women going into labor without someone trained to protect their voice and support their birthing preferences in that hospital setting

This gap matters — because having a doula is linked with more spontaneous vaginal births, fewer unplanned cesareans, less fear, and higher satisfaction with the experience!!

And that’s exactly what I mean when I say I’m a hospital birth doula —
I show up where most births happen, and I help you navigate that system with confidence, clarity, and advocacy on your side so

👏🏻 You don’t have to worry about remembering everything from your childbirth class (although you should still take one!)

👏🏻 You won’t have to wonder what your options are

👏🏻 And your partner can show up for you fully present with support that better helps them support YOU 🤍

I am constantly amazed by women...

I get a front row seat to the quiet strength it takes to keep going when birth asks more of you than you ever knew you had within you to give.

I watch women learn to trust their instincts, make brave decisions in real time, and discover a version of themselves they didn’t know was already there.

It’s never about just having a baby. 💁🏼‍♀️

It’s about witnessing this mama step fully into her power, her voice, and her ability to move through something hard with courage and support.

No two births ever look the same, but the thing that always leaves me in awe is this:

Women are so much more capable than they’ve been led to believe.

And I get to watch that truth unfold over and over again.

Best job ever. 🤍

I love low-intervention birth.
Which is exactly why I tell my clients to remove
“no unnecessary interventions” from their birth plan.

Because here’s the truth 👇
Anything offered to you in labor will always be framed as necessary.

And what one provider considers necessary,
another might never recommend at all.

Low-intervention birth isn’t about rejecting care.
It’s about you being the one to decide which interventions actually support your goals, beliefs, and values for this birth.

✨ You deserve true informed consent.
✨ You deserve informed choice.
✨ You deserve informed refusal.

I break this down step-by-step in my FREE low-intervention birth guide, including my 3 non-negotiables for hospital birth.

Unbiased education? I try…but at the end of the day you deserve to know exactly what you’re getting here 😉

This is how I personally view and approach birth…But here’s what’s also real:

98–99% of women in the U.S. are giving birth in hospitals.

And most of them aren’t trying to avoid the hospital.

They just want a low-intervention experience inside it.

So that’s who I support.

Women who want a physiologic birth

🚫 without feeling dismissed.

🚫 without feeling like they have to defend themselves

🚫 without feeling pressured into decisions

You don’t need to birth in your living room to want autonomy 💁🏼‍♀️

If you’re planning a hospital birth but hoping to keep it low-intervention,
I made something for you 🤍
