October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. π
Domestic violence is a serious problem in our country, and it affects people of every background.
π In the 12 months before the most recent CDC survey, about 6.7 million women and 2.8 million men in the U.S. experienced sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking from an intimate partner.
π In just one day in 2025, domestic violence programs served more than 84,000 victims across the country.
π More than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men experience this kind of violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Anyone can be a victim, but women are disproportionately affected, and are more likely to face impacts like physical injury, missed work or school, fear for their safety, or the need for medical care.
If you or someone you know needs help, you are not alone. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE), text START to 88788, or visit thehotline.org.
