Before + after ear molding 🤍

Early ear molding can make a huge difference in your baby’s anatomy. By gently guiding the ear while a baby’s cartilage is still soft and flexible, certain differences in ear shape can often be corrected without surgery.

If you notice something different about your baby’s ear after birth, don’t wait to ask. The first 6 weeks are an important window for treatment.

Schedule an appointment with the Kansas Cleft & Craniofacial Center to find out if ear molding may be the best option for your little one.

The first few weeks of life offer a unique window when the ear cartilage is soft and easily molded. Early ear molding can often correct many congenital ear differences without surgery—but timing is everything.

Parents should keep an eye out for ears that appear folded, cupped, protruding, pointed, or uneven. If something doesn’t look quite right, don’t wait to “see if they grow out of it.” The best time to begin ear molding is typically within the first few weeks of life, when maternal hormones make the cartilage most flexible. Starting early often means shorter treatment times and the best possible results.

If you have concerns about your baby’s ears, schedule an evaluation as soon as possible. Early intervention can make all the difference. 💙

✨ Scar Care Matters ✨

A cleft lip repair is just the beginning of a child’s journey. With time, patience, and proper scar care, a surgical scar can continue to soften, flatten, and fade as a child grows.

This photo series highlights the incredible healing process—from before surgery, 2 months post repair, and 8 months post repair. While every child heals differently, consistent scar care and follow-up with your cleft care team can help support the best possible outcome.

Healing takes time, and proper scar care makes a difference.

Let’s celebrate every step of the journey and the beautiful smiles along the way!

A sweet before-and-after showing the difference early ear molding can make.👂🏽🗓️

Ear molding works best when started within the first six weeks of life, while a newborn’s ear cartilage is still soft and easy to reshape. As the cartilage firms, treatment can become less effective.

For babies born with folded, prominent, pointed or uneven ears, ear molding offers a gentle, non-surgical way to improve ear shape and may help avoid corrective surgery later.

Swipe ➡️to see immediately after surgery!

A very wide, bilateral cleft lip, and palate, with a very malpositioned central segment can be one of the hardest types of cleft to Repair.

However, with wide anatomic dissection, Strong floor of the nose repair, adequate muscle re-orientation and repair, an excellent result to be achieved, giving this baby, not only a beautifully repaired lip but a low incidence of revisionary surgeries in the future. A good lip repair at this stage can be critical for facilitating the cleft palate repair in the future!

At Kansas Cleft & Craniofacial Center,
Our goals in every cleft lip repair are
✅to restore each baby’s anatomy to as close to symmetric as possible,
✅to prevent any future teasing and feeling self-conscious for the child
✅to avoid recurrent revisionary procedures during childhood
✅ to reconstruct the lip to facilitate palate repair in the future.

Born with metopic craniosynostosis, this little one’s skull fused too early, which can cause a narrowed, pointed forehead and a ridge along the midline of the skull, sometimes giving the head a triangular appearance.

She underwent fronto-orbital advancement with anterior cranial vault remodeling to reshape the forehead and allow for normal development.
