It is with heavy hearts, but also with deep gratitude, that we remember and honor Mr. Lonnie Fields.
From the moment Mr. Fields came through our doors at Wellsprings Care Homes, we knew he was someone special. He arrived with that big, unforgettable smile and quickly let us know he was not going to tolerate โus girls acting this way.โ From that very first day, he became a huge piece of our hearts.
Mr. Fields was a veteran, a father, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather. He was a man full of stories, wisdom, kindness, and love. You could often find Lonnie sitting by the window, looking out at the trees, with a few snacks tucked in his pocket and an Ensure nearby. He loved telling us how long those trees had been there and educating us all about them.
Lonnie always greeted us with a great big hello, a hug, and a smile that made it feel like he had known us all our lives. He never missed a โthank youโ or a โGod bless you,โ whether we were serving his food, sitting down to eat with him, or just stopping by to check on him.
Now, shower days were a different story. We all knew we were probably in trouble on those days. But even then, with a firm โyouโre crazy,โ Lonnie would go along with it and still leave us smiling.
You could always count on Lonnie for a midnight snack and good conversation. Some of our favorite memories were simple ones: a sip of juice, a bologna sandwich, some chips, and Lonnieโs stories. Those moments will stay with us forever.
Lonnie spoke often and proudly of his beautiful family: his five children, three girls and two boys, and his beautiful wife. He loved when his family came to visit, and he would talk about those visits for days. He proudly carried the snacks they brought him in his shirt pocket, usually a SunnyD, a granola bar, and his favorite, Cheez-Its.
Mr. Fields brought so much joy, laughter, and love into our home. His smile will never be forgotten, and his โGod bless youโ will always be a familiar sound in our hearts.
To Lonnieโs family, thank you from all of us at Wellsprings Care Homes for allowing us the honor and privilege of caring for him. What an amazing family he has, and what an amazing man he was. We are truly grateful for the time we had with him.
Lonnie will be deeply missed by all of us, but the love, laughter, and memories he gave us will remain forever.
