Why Check a Baby's Spine—and When Should Their First Adjustment Be?
There is something pretty incredible about watching a newborn enter the world. In a matter of moments, they transition from the protected environment they've known for nine months to breathing, feeding, moving, and adapting to an entirely new world.
And their little bodies have already been through quite a journey just getting here.
Birth is a natural process, but that doesn't mean it is an effortless one. During labor and delivery, a baby's head, neck, spine, and body experience pressure and movement as they make their entrance whether through a vaginal birth or Cesarean delivery.
This is one reason I believe every baby deserves to have their spine and nervous system checked after birth.
Not because we assume something is wrong with them. Quite the opposite.
Chiropractic is rooted in the idea that the body is designed to grow, adapt, and function. The nervous system is at the center of that process, constantly receiving information and coordinating how the body responds to the world around it. During infancy, when growth and development happen at an incredible pace, supporting that communication is especially important.
