THINGS NARCISSISTS DO BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
What you see in public is often not the full story. Narcissists carefully manage their image, appearing charming, kind, or even admirable to outsiders. But behind closed doors, where there is no audience to impress, their true patterns of behavior begin to show.
1. THEY SWITCH PERSONALITIES
In public, they are calm and likable. In private, they can become critical, cold, or aggressive. This sudden shift leaves you confused, constantly trying to understand which version of them is real.
2. THEY INVALIDATE YOUR FEELINGS
They dismiss your emotions as overreactions or weakness. Instead of listening, they minimize your experiences, making you feel like your feelings don’t matter or are somehow wrong.
3. THEY GASLIGHT YOU
They deny things they said or did, twist conversations, and rewrite events. Over time, this makes you question your memory and your reality, leaving you unsure of what is actually true.
4. THEY CREATE EMOTIONAL CONFUSION
One moment they are kind, the next they are distant or harsh. This inconsistency keeps you emotionally off balance, making it harder to predict their behavior or feel secure.
5. THEY USE SILENCE AS PUNISHMENT
Instead of communicating, they withdraw. The silent treatment is used to control, punish, or force you to chase after them for resolution.
6. THEY SHIFT BLAME
Nothing is ever their fault. Even when they hurt you, they find a way to make you responsible for their behavior. This keeps them from taking accountability.
7. THEY TEST YOUR LIMITS
They push boundaries to see how much you will tolerate. Each time you forgive or overlook their behavior, they feel more comfortable crossing the line again.
8. THEY KEEP YOU EMOTIONALLY DEPENDENT
They mix moments of kindness with hurtful behavior. This creates a cycle where you hold onto the good moments, hoping things will change, while ignoring the consistent harm.
FINAL THOUGHT
Behind closed doors is where truth lives. If someone consistently makes you feel confused, small, or emotionally drained in private, believe that pattern. What they show the world is an image. What they show you is who they are.
