Our Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Specialty Department works diligently to support individuals with lifelong challenges due to prenatal alcohol exposure. PA State Rep. Brenda Pugh (pictured in center) visited our Pennsylvania Avenue location this week to discuss this important work with Summer Krochta, Vice President of Programs (at left), and Jessica Sachs, FASD Coordinator and Family Peer Supervisor. FASD is often missed due to lack of awareness and recognition, overlap with other conditions, difficulty in establishing prenatal alcohol exposure, and limited assessment tools and resources. FASD has been recognized in recently approved congressional legislation as a lifelong, brain-based disability requiring coordinated services, professional education, early identification, and family-centered support. This progress reflects years of advocacy by individuals with lived experience, families, clinicians, researchers, and organizations like CSC dedicated to improving the system of care.

We are a proud affiliate partner of FASD United!

For drug or alcohol challenges, we are here and ready to help with comprehensive treatment and support to begin recovery. Medication Assisted Treatment or MAT provided by Heather Gavin, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, and Stephanie Davenport, MAT Coordinator, at Conyngham Primary Health Care Center, assists many people in combination with counseling and other behavioral therapies. They are part of the Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) Center of Excellence, recognized by The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services for its commitment to increasing access to MAT in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

MAT is provided in collaboration with the Substance Use Disorders team at Robinson Counseling Center along with individual/group therapy, medical care, support from certified recovery and peer specialists, crisis intervention, and caring assistance for substance related medical emergencies. To begin the recovery process for you or a loved one, call 570.301.0935 and request an initial appointment for intake and registration. Today can be a life-changing start on a new path for recovery!

Things got a little spotted and slippery for our Tunkhannock staff in the Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Blended Case Management programs, who recently got an introduction and better understanding on the ins and outs of snake life. The thankfully "optional" event was apparently a fun one as noted by the many smiles in the room. When it comes to snakes, are you in or out?

Today is one of our Sanctuary Day observances, when we remind our coworkers about the importance of positivity and taking care of one another as we work to support our community. Sanctuary principles are grounded in creating a trauma-informed environment where safety, communication, and accountability can help everyone define and achieve their personal goals. You might see many of us wearing our agency t-shirts or "positive message" gear like (from left) Kim Chattin, Christine Monaghan and Pat Roper. Their t-shirts from the recent NAMI walk remind us "One Step, One Breath, One Day at a Time." Keep moving forward....we are here for YOU!
