At NewCastle Speech Services, we want families to understand that private speech therapy and school-based speech therapy are separate services, and a child may receive support through both settings when eligible and appropriate.

Receiving private speech and language therapy does not automatically prevent your child from receiving speech services through the public school system.

Likewise, if your child already receives speech services at school, your family may still choose to pursue private speech and language therapy.

Why Might a Child Receive Both?

School-based and private speech therapy may have different purposes:

School-based speech services focus on communication difficulties that affect a child's ability to participate in and benefit from their education. Eligibility is determined by the school system.

Private speech services may address a broader range of speech, language, social communication, and functional communication needs based on the child's individual evaluation and treatment plan.

Because the settings are different, private therapy may provide additional support or address communication needs that are not being targeted through school-based services.

If your child currently receives school-based speech services or is going to start school-based speech services, you are still welcome to continue with NewCastle Speech Services.

Our goal is to help families understand their options and find the support that best meets their child's communication needs.

****EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT****

Seth was born and raised in Wilkes County, North Carolina. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 2021 and has been a speech-language pathologist for five years. He previously worked in Winston-Salem and Elkin, serving children and families in a variety of clinics, daycares, and schools. He is excited to be back in his hometown, where he feels God has led him.

Seth has provided direct therapy services to children and adolescents ages 2–18. He has experience treating a variety of communication disorders and developmental delays, including articulation disorders, expressive and receptive language delays, and fluency disorders.

Outside of speech therapy, Seth loves anything to do with sports and has a fun sock collection! He enjoys building close connections with the children he serves and their families, and his colorful socks often help bring a little extra fun to each session.

🌟 Celebrating progress, one bite at a time! 🌟

Aurora has been working hard on increasing her ability to tolerate and explore non-preferred foods during her speech therapy sessions. 🍎🥕 Every interaction with a new or challenging food can be an important step toward building comfort and confidence at mealtimes.

NewCastle Speech Services can support children with food aversions and feeding challenges by helping them gradually become more comfortable with different tastes, textures, smells, and consistencies. Therapy may include exploring foods at a child’s comfort level, developing oral-motor and feeding skills when appropriate, and creating positive, low-pressure experiences around eating.

👏 A special thank you to Nikki, our SLP Assistant, for encouraging Aurora and helping her work toward her speech and feeding goals. We love celebrating these meaningful moments of progress!

🌟 A big communication win for one of our NewCastle clients! 🌟

Our client recently put his AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) skills into action by using his device to order his own food at Wendy’s! 🍔❤️

Moments like this are what communication therapy is all about—building the skills and confidence to communicate wants, needs, and choices independently in everyday life.

A special thank you to Chas, our SLP Assistant, for supporting him along his communication journey and helping turn practice into real-world independence. And a big thanks to Wendy's for being so accommodating during this interaction.👏
