Lifestyle Award Winner for the 2026 Southern Arizona Heart Walk: Robert Clegg, PhD

This recognition honors an individual whose lifestyle changes have led to meaningful improvements in their heart health. Their commitment creates a powerful ripple effect by inspiring healthier choices for themselves, their families, and their community

Robert (Bob) Clegg, PhD, serves as the Rural Executive Director of Operations and Quality for Benson Hospital and Northern Cochise Community Hospital, with a deep commitment to improving care and access in rural communities. Bob’s heart attack began with what he thought was heartburn, but as the pain worsened and radiated through his neck, back, and left arm, he knew something was wrong. His wife rushed him to Benson Hospital, where he received lifesaving treatment before being transferred to Tucson for advanced cardiac care.

Since his heart attack, Bob has taken a proactive approach to his health, working closely with his care team, improving his diet, increasing physical activity, and managing stress. He has lost nearly 45 pounds and significantly improved key health measures. Now working at the hospital that saved his life, Bob leads with purpose and is honored to walk as a heart attack survivor at the 2026 Southern Arizona Heart Walk on April 18. His message is simple: take care of your heart, it’s the only one you have.

Day 4 HOSPITAL WEEK - What is on the lunch menu? It's another fantastic meal by our Chef Isaiah. BBQ or marinated chicken cooked on the grill! And some tasty salads on the side. All delicious as usual! 🥗🍗🌞

Really nice to see so many of our colleagues enjoying themself and taking a break from their every-day work routine. You know what they say about "relaxation."

1. Improves Focus and Mental Clarity 🧠
Continuous work without breaks leads to mental fatigue, reduced problem-solving ability, and slower decision-making. A lunch break acts as a mental reset, helping you return to tasks with clearer thinking and sharper focus.

2. Reduces Stress and Prevents Burnout 🔥
Stepping away from work allows your brain to process information, lower stress hormones, and release endorphins, which improve mood and emotional resilience Reality Pathing+1. This helps prevent the chronic stress and exhaustion that can lead to burnout.

3. Boosts Creativity 💫
Disengaging from work tasks can spark new ideas. Activities like walking, stretching, or chatting with colleagues can trigger creative breakthroughs.

4. Enhances Physical Health💪
Eating mindfully during lunch supports digestion and helps you avoid unhealthy snacking. It also reduces eye strain, muscle tension, and fatigue from prolonged sitting.

Have a wonderful day! And thank you, to Chef Isaiah and his team for all of their hard work! 🤩🥳

Northern Cochise Community Hospital Conducts State-Mandated Emergency Exercise 🚑🔥
Northern Cochise Community Hospital carried out a comprehensive emergency preparedness exercise this morning, fulfilling one of the State of Arizona’s annual requirements for hospital disaster readiness ✅

Arizona mandates that hospitals conduct emergency drills on every shift at least once every 12 months, ensuring that staff across all departments remain prepared for a wide range of potential emergencies 📋⏱️ This morning’s exercise simulated a complex and high-risk scenario involving a kitchen fire, a gas explosion, and the evacuation of patients 🔥💥🏥

Hospital staff participated in the coordinated drill, testing response times, communication protocols, and patient safety procedures in a fast-moving emergency environment 🚨👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Officials note that these scenarios are continuously updated and varied to reflect real-world risks and evolving best practices.

The exercise also drew attention from local media. Mia Longoria of The Cochise County Voice and Hector Acuna, freelancing for the Eastern Arizona Courier, were on site to observe and report 🎥📰 Their coverage helps residents better understand how local hospitals prepare to protect the community.

State-required emergency exercises are designed to simulate real disasters, helping hospital teams identify gaps, strengthen coordination, and refine response strategies. Ultimately, these drills play a vital role in reducing risk and improving outcomes during actual emergencies 📊✅

Northern Cochise Community Hospital remains committed to ongoing training and preparedness to ensure the safety of both patients and staff in any situation ❤️
