A breast biopsy can bring a lot of questions.

Knowing what to expect can make the process a little easier.

Dr. Jason Pericak, Chief of Breast Imaging Services at GLMI, explains what happens during a breast biopsy, how the sample is evaluated, and why he personally calls his patients with their results.

Most importantly, he shares how GLMI takes an individualized approach to breast care, because every patient is different.

Your breast health is about more than your mammogram.

Your personal and family history is also critical in analyzing your individual breast cancer risk.

Dr. Jason Pericak, Chief of Breast Imaging Services at GLMI, explains how the Breast Healthcare Risk Assessment Questionnaire looks at factors such as previous breast biopsies and hereditary cancer history to help determine your breast cancer risk.

For patients considered high risk, additional imaging such as breast MRI or ultrasound may be recommended. Genetic testing may also identify inherited risks that can provide important information for you and your family.

As Dr. Pericak explains, it’s a preventative approach rather than a reactive one.

Knowing your risk can be the first step toward making more informed decisions about your breast health.

When someone comes in for a breast MRI, they're often carrying more than questions. They're carrying uncertainty.

For Rachel, one of our MRI Technologists at GLMI's Breast Care Center, that's what makes her work so meaningful.

Knowing that an exam can help provide answers and a clearer picture of what's going on, reminds her why she loves what she does.

Rachel also shares what patients can expect during a breast MRI, including why many people who are concerned about claustrophobia are surprised by how comfortable the experience can be.

She also talks about the compassionate care patients receive from Dr. Jason Pericak and the Breast Care Center team.

Meet Dr. Jason Pericak, Chief of Breast Imaging Services.

A Western New York native, Dr. Pericak completed his medical degree at the University at Buffalo before pursuing his Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of South Florida and a Breast Imaging Fellowship at the University of Maryland.

Today, he leads our breast imaging team with a focus on early detection, advanced technology, and compassionate patient care.

For Dr. Pericak, one message stands above the rest.

Early detection saves lives.

With state-of-the-art mammography, ultrasound, and MRI technology, our team can detect cancers at their earliest stages, often when they're just a few millimeters in size. Combined with timely results and a personalized approach to every patient, that means more opportunities for earlier treatment and better outcomes.

"Being able to save lives and help patients get on the right track, that's why we do what we do."

We're proud to have physicians like Dr. Pericak serving our community every day.
