Happy almost November! 🍂

We know that each month has its own set of challenges, and with the holiday season coming up, it can be especially difficult for those seeking mental health support. Remember, you are not alone. If you or a loved one needs to talk to someone who gets it, consider joining a NAMI Vermont Support Group!

Get mental health support that is:

• Free
• Confidential
• Facilitated by trained volunteers with mental health experience
• Requires no registration to join!

We offer virtual and in-person support groups statewide for individuals and families struggling with mental conditions. Find the best group for you at www.namivt.org/support-groups (you don’t need to live in the area where the group is based to attend!)

Currently, we’re looking for facilitators interested in starting a group in their area! Are you someone who can lead with empathy using your mental health experience? Have you attended a NAMI Vermont support group in the past? You could be the perfect candidate to start your own group! Email [email protected] to learn more.

On Friday, October 23, NAMI Vermont will attend the Vermont Afterschool Annual Conference at Hotel Champlain in Burlington!

NAMI Vermont is proud to attend to support Vermont Afterschool's work and to share a variety of free mental health resources for youth. Youth mental health has never been more important, and we are glad to do our part to support, educate, and advocate for children and young adults.

Vermont Afterschool is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Vermont youth benefit from the power of afterschool, summer learning, and third space programs during the out-of-school hours. NAMI Vermont is honored to partner with Vermont Afterschool, as we have in the past for our Community Conversation Series, Mental Health Advocacy Day, and more.

Please join us at the conference to learn more about our organization, how we reach communities statewide through our free mental health programs, and how we collaborate with partners like Vermont Afterschool and other like-minded organizations to support mental health and wellness for Vermonters of all ages. Check out our free resources, connect with NAMI Vermont staff and volunteers, and learn how to get involved and make a difference in your community. We hope to see you there!

Everyone has a story to tell. Why not use yours to help others?

This January, join NAMI Vermont's Smarts for Advocacy training! This free, virtual, hands-on workshop will help you develop your advocacy skills to make an impact with local, state, and federal policymakers. Whether you're brand new to advocacy or an experienced advocate with years of phone calls and meetings under your belt, NAMI Smarts has something for everyone. All are welcome! Learn side by side with others working toward the same goal: sharing their mental health story to bring greater awareness and more effective mental healthcare for all Vermonters.

We will be offering a NAMI Smarts Advocacy training session on January 9, 2027. The session will be held virtually via Zoom, allowing advocates from across the state to participate. During this training, we will cover Module 1 (Telling Your Story) and Module 2 (Policy Making 101) from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Since this meeting is virtual, we request that participants keep their cameras on for the entire training. Thank you for understanding!

Register today and save your spot at: www.namivt.org/smarts. We hope to see you there!

Exciting news: The date for the 12th Annual Mental Health Advocacy Day has been set! Join NAMI Vermont, Vermont Care Partners, and The Vermont Association for Mental Health and Addiction Recovery in person on Tuesday, January 26, 2027, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Vermont State House. Every year, we’re joined by mental health advocates, peers, family members, professionals, community members, and others to call on Vermont leaders and legislators to support the mental health of Vermonters.

This year, we encourage everyone to get involved, advocate, and vote for mental health for all. If you or someone you know has been directly affected by a mental health condition, your story could make a difference. Join Mental Health Advocacy Day and help influence the conversation around mental health. This event is a great opportunity for advocates to meet and greet legislators in the State House Card Room and share their concerns and hopes for the future of mental health care in Vermont.

Registration will be available soon. Please visit www.namivt.org/advocacy-day to learn more and see last year's Mental Health Advocacy Day recording!

If you’re interested in co-sponsoring the event, please contact Nick Martin at [email protected]. We’re excited to have you join us at the State House!

For 87 years, we’ve shown up for what Vermont needed next. Right now, we need Vermont to show up for us. 🧡

Every dollar of VAMHAR’s federal funding is gone. We’ve spent the past year using our reserves and piecing together funding to keep our staff working and our programs moving.

That bought us time—but not stability.

Now, we need to raise $150,000 by the end of October to carry VAMHAR through this transition.

We believe deeply that there is a future on the other side of this. A future where we keep training service providers. Keep advancing su***de prevention. Keep creating free learning opportunities. Keep strengthening workplaces. Keep advocating. Keep bringing people together. Keep building what Vermont needs next.

Will you build it with us?
🧡 Give if you can.
