The Sidewalk Sale starts today! There may be heavier traffic than usual. Although the Sidewalk Sale doesn’t close any streets, there will be increased foot traffic, limited parking, and more congestion surrounding the downtown Wilmette area on Friday, July 10th and Saturday, July 11th between 10am - 5pm.

If you have an appointment, plan for extra time to find parking and arrive to your appointment in a timely matter.

As the summer heats up, it’s important to remember to use sunscreen. Sunscreen can help protect against sunburn and some skin cancers. We recommend a minimum SPF of 30. It’s important to apply sunscreen on any exposed skin and reapply every two hours while you enjoy the outside summer sun. There are various types of sunscreen from sticks to lotions to sprays. Sensitive skin may tolerate simpler products with only zinc oxide and titanium oxide. Enjoy the sun safely!

Call the office if your child is under 1 years old and gets sunburn, or if older children develop blisters or a fever after sun exposure.

How do you like to enjoy the sun?

The biggest drowning threat with toddlers is unexpected, unsupervised access to water. It’s important to stay attentive and provide touch supervision as needed. Do not drink alcohol and swim. Whether you’re the swimmer or the supervisor, alcohol impairs your ability to think clearly, coordinate, or to judge distance, depth, speed and direction. It’s also important that you establish pool rules. Install pool fences around home pools to provide an extra layer of safety. All children develop differently and will be ready to swim at their own pace. Even if your child knows how to swim, it does not mean they cannot drown. Drowning is possible in 2 inches of water, making supervision a necessity not a suggestion. Life jackets should always be used near large bodies of water and for children who lack strong swimming skills when in the water. There are many ways to play, especially in water, keep it fun and keep it safe.

What is your favorite water activity?
