Health Alert: Thyroid Hormones May Influence Type 2 Diabetes Risk. A review of data from an 18-year, population-based study found that people with lower thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and relatively higher free thyroxine (FT4) levels had a
modestly higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The findings suggest that patients with hyperthyroidism or subclinical hyperthyroidism may benefit from closer monitoring of their metabolic health.

Diet: A Healthy Diet May Help Offset Some Health Risks of Air Pollution. Air pollution has been linked to a higher risk of several chronic diseases, including heart disease, lung disease, and metabolic disorders. A review of 51 studies found that healthier dietary patterns, as well as higher intakes of grains, dairy, omega-3 fatty acids, and B vitamins, were associated with a smaller increase in chronic disease risk related to air pollution exposure.

Exercise: Brief Daily Exercise Sessions Improved Multiple Health Measures. Exercise snacks are short, structured workouts intended to break up long periods of sitting. In this study, sedentary women who completed a 12-minute exercise snack each day for eight weeks improved cardiometabolic health, grip strength, estimated aerobic fitness, and several markers related to healthy cellular and vascular function.

Chiropractic: Treatment for Nonspecific Low Back Pain. About 90% of people who seek care for low back pain have nonspecific low back pain, meaning the pain is not caused by a specific condition such as a fracture, infection, spinal stenosis, or cancer. A recent review of 108 publications encompassing clinical trials, observational studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and clinical guidelines noted that spinal manipulation—the primary form of treatment provided by chiropractors—is a recommended first-line treatment for both acute and chronic nonspecific low back pain.

Mental Attitude: Sedentary Behaviors May Affect Teen Mental Health. In a study of students aged 15 to 17, researchers observed that sedentary habits were more strongly associated with poorer mental health than dietary habits or overall lifestyle habits.

Wellness/Prevention: To***co Use Linked to Higher Risk of Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions—including high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, excess abdominal fat, and abnormal cholesterol levels—that increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. A recent study found that compared with non-users, the odds of developing metabolic syndrome were over three times higher for exclusive e-cigarette users and over seven times higher for cigarette smokers.

Health Alert: Inflammatory Blood Marker Linked to One-Year Survival After Heart Attack. A high platelet count can reflect inflammation and increased clotting activity, while low albumin often signals acute inflammation, poor nutritional status, frailty, or chronic illness. In a study of over 1,300 patients hospitalized with acute coronary syndrome (heart attack or unstable angina), those with the highest platelet-to-albumin ratio had a 16.7% one-year mortality rate, compared with 6.1% among those with lower ratios.
Annals of Medicine, July 2026

Diet: Healthy Diet May Help Protect Heart Health in Type 2 Diabetics. Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading complications of type 2 diabetes. Researchers found that type 2 diabetics with the greatest adherence to a healthy dietary pattern had significantly lower levels of cardiovascular risk markers in the blood associated with artery-clogging plaque and cardiovascular disease.
Journal of Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders, July 2026

Exercise: Exercise Benefits Physical and Mental Health During Dialysis. Because hemodialysis can contribute to muscle weakness, reduced physical fitness, and declining physical function, patients with kidney disease are increasingly being advised to exercise. An umbrella review of 11 meta-analyses found that for individuals receiving dialysis, aerobic exercise improves cardiorespiratory fitness, dialysis efficiency, inflammation, and depression, while resistance exercise benefits muscle strength and physical function. The authors add that combining aerobic and resistance training may provide the broadest range of overall health benefits.

Chiropractic: Neck Pain Continues to Affect Young People Worldwide. Using data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study, researchers estimate that approximately 1% of individuals between 10 and 24 years of age experience neck pain at any given time. Of note, while the overall prevalence of neck pain has fallen slightly among this age group over the past three decades, there has been an increase among children ages 10 to 14.
Pain Research & Management, July 2026

Mental Attitude: Mental Health Is an Important Part of Heart Attack Recovery. Mental health challenges are common during recovery from a heart attack, yet they are not always discussed. Researchers found that 78.4% of younger (under age 50) myocardial infarction patients reported that no physician initiated a discussion about their mental health during recovery, even though psychological well-being is closely linked to long-term cardiovascular health.
Heart & Lung, July 2026

Wellness/Prevention: Encouraging Trends Emerge for Melanoma Survival in Younger Adults. Researchers report that melanoma mortality among American adults aged 25 to 44 years dropped by more than half between 1999 and 2023, decreasing from 0.99 to 0.47 deaths per 100,000 people. Although the study did not identify the cause, increased awareness of skin cancer, earlier diagnosis, and improvements in treatment may help explain this
encouraging trend.

Active Middle-Aged and Older Adults Less at Lower Risk of Stroke.

A seven-year study of adults aged 45 and older revealed that highly active individuals had a 48% lower risk of experiencing a first stroke than those with a sedentary lifestyle.
