Eugene "Gene" Wells Oldham

Eugene “Gene” Wells Oldham, age 66, of Elsmere, Delaware, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Gene was born in Wilmington, son of Diane Irene (Clark) Button. Gene graduated from John Dickinson High School, Class of 1978, and went on to become a highly respected Lab Technician for Hercules and Ashland, Inc., where he worked for 47 years. Gene’s family was very important to him, and he cherished every moment he spent with them, especially his son Sam. In his free time, Gene enjoyed going to the racetrack at Delaware Park, watching the Eagles and the Phillies, and dinners at Mrs. Robinos. Gene was predeceased by his adopted son, Robert; his great-aunt, Edna Mae Clark; and grandparents, Fred N. Clark, Molly Chadwick; and Ernest and Thelma Oldham.

Gene is survived by his devoted son, Sam E. Oldham; mother, Diane Irene Button; brother, Fred R. Oldham; sisters, Wendy Halligan-Hales (Raymond) and Denise Shaffer (Randy); nephew Christopher Oldham, niece Jessica Catron, great-nephews Tyden, Adrian and Aiden great-niece Dahlia, and extended close family friends whom he all loved.

A visitation for Gene will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 10-11am, with a celebration of life following at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Gene’s name to Faithful Friends Animal Society or Delaware Hospice.

Rose Marie Austin

Rose Marie Austin, age 93, of Newark, DE, passed away on September 1st 2026 surrounded by her family.

Born in Delaware City, DE, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle (Hemphill) and Charles Hall. Rose worked at Dupont, Delmarva, and the Christina School District prior to her retirement. She is remembered for being a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Rose is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Hall, Jr. and Alvin Hall. She is survived by her sons Charles R Austin, James B Austin, Kenneth (Kimberly) Austin.

Burial will be held privately in Delaware City at a later date.

Rosemarie Gormley Ercole

Rosemarie Gormley Ercole of Hockessin, Delaware died September 1, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was 89.

Rosemarie was born December 20, 1936, to the late Betty and Charles Gormley and twin sister to James J. Gormley. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1956.

She is survived by her four sons and two daughters: Maria E. Vandegrift, Dominick J. Romano, Jr and his wife Sandra, Charles (Chip) Romano and his wife Lisa, Michael Romano and his wife Amy, Rosemary Patterson, and Peter Romano and his wife Nikki, and her stepson Andrew Ercole, 3rd. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Ercole, Jr., and stepson Ernest Ercole, grandson James Gormley Vandegrift, sisters: Alma, Letty Swift and her husband Franny, brothers: Charles Gormley and his wife Jane, Edward Gormley and his wife Anne, and James J. Gormley and his wife Nancy. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Besides being dedicated to raising her 6 children, she was an assembly line worker at the General Motors Corporation in Newport, Delaware. She was the real life “Rosie the Riveter.”

A visitation for Rosemarie will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Ave, Hockessin, DE 19707, where friends and family may call from 10-11am, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, Rosemarie being that she was a “red hot democrat” would prefer donations go to the Democratic National Committee or to your favorite local democrat running for an office.

Larry S. Marshall, Jr.

Larry S. Marshall, Jr., age 58, of Hartly, Delaware, formerly of New Castle, Delaware, passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 29, 2026.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Larry was the son of Barbara (Hamm) Marshall and the late Larry S. Marshall, Sr. He graduated from Delcastle Technical High School and became a Master Electrician. Larry was initiated into IBEW Local 313 in September 2000 and spent the last 22 years of his career with Furness Electric, where he worked as a highly respected foreman.

Larry loved the outdoors, especially bass fishing and spending time on his boat, and was a member of a local bass fishing club. Above all, he loved his family. He was a devoted husband and father and a proud Poppop who loved his grandchildren deeply and treasured every moment spent with them.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Karen (Sayers) Marshall; his children, Brian Marshall (Lisa) and Lisa Marshall; his grandchildren, Ariana, Elijah, and Lilliana; his mother, Barbara Marshall; his siblings, Kim Keen, Michael Marshall (Noel), and David Marshall; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Public graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 9, at 10:30 A.M. at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, Delaware.

Robert N. McCue, "Bob"

Robert N. McCue (Bob) 75, of Avondale, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 surrounded by his family.

He was the youngest son of Benjamin Earl McCue, II, and Dorothy Hughes (McCue) Todd.

Having grown up in Pocopson, he was a lifelong resident of Chester County, a descendant of Quaker Heritage.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan Pennington McCue; his children, a son, Michael (Samantha) McCue of Chadds Ford, PA and a daughter, Meredith (David) Nussbaumer of East Fallowfield, PA; and his four grandchildren, William, Edward, Alexandria and Heidi. He is also survived by his older brother, Benjamin Earl McCue, III (Mickey) and his niece, Jennifer McCue, both of West Chester, PA.

Bob graduated from Unionville High School in 1969. He went on to become a Master of all trades: Electrical, Plumbing, Heating, Building and Craftsman.

Bob worked for the Tri-M Corporation of Kennett Square, PA as an Electrical Foreman for 25 years. He then went on to work for Winterthur Museum and Gardens in 2003 as Assistant Director of Facilities Services

Bob received the 2003 "ABC Award" for National Excellence in Construction and recognition for outstanding and innovative construction projects, and museum rewiring and relighting projects. In 2019, Bob, semi-retired, but continued to do consultant work for Winterthur Museum.

Bob lived his life full of hobbies and activities; surfing, bowling, playing guitar, and he got his pilot's license in 1976. He enjoyed boating, water skiing and camping. He particularly liked deep sea fishing and vacationing in the Outer Banks, NC. He also spent a great deal of time in his basement workshop.

In 1979, Bob and Susan purchased a home in Avondale, PA that was built in 1881. He along with Susan, spent the next 47 years renovating, upgrading and enhancing this property in every way imaginable. Today this home stands as a testimony to Bob's extraordinary ingenuity, creativity and skills.

Bob's knowledge and abilities became widely known and sought after. Bob served as President of the Avondale Borough Council for 15 years, making major contributions and changes to the borough. Bob always enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and was known for his tomatoes. Finally, Bob was a handsome, quiet, and thoughtful man, inviting his mother-in-law to live with he and Susan until her final years. He was a father of good example and support to his children and constant source of humor. He will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held on Friday September 4th at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808 from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. with formal services beginning at 11 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions Avondale Fire Company, 23 Firehouse Way Avondale, PA 19311.
