Elderhaus

Elderhaus was the first PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) in North Carolina.

Elderhaus PACE is a complete health care program that offers a more personal way of getting health care. PACE is based upon the successful long-term care model in San Francisco known as On Lok. This program was developed as a special health plan for senior citizens. Older people often have medical problems that last for long periods of time. This health plan will arrange for doctors, nurses or oth

er specially trained people to help with these problems. It gives Elderhaus PACE participants a place to go to receive care. Elderhaus PACE includes Elderhaus at the Lake, an Adult Day Center and Elderhaus at the Canterbury Center.

🎉 Happy Juneteenth! Each year, June 19, or Juneteenth, recalls the date in 1865 when all enslaved African-Americans in the US were made aware of the Emancipation Proclamation and were officially released from their bonds – some two years after President Abraham Lincoln had initially signed the proclamation.

🗽 Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 when President Biden signed it into law. Celebrations include picnics, rodeos, street fairs, cookouts, family reunions, park parties, historical reenactments, and blues festivals. 🧡

🎉 National Nursing Assistant Week, or CNA Week, wrapped up yesterday, and we were delighted to share our heartfelt appreciation with our staff throughout our EveryAge locations!

🩺 Our CNAs work tirelessly every day, providing compassionate care, support, and comfort to residents and participants. We're grateful for all they do, whether it's helping with personal hygiene, monitoring vital signs, serving meals, or helping residents and participants with mobility.

We appreciate their dedication and hard work year-round. They truly are unbelievable! 💙

The ladies truly stole the spotlight during Bowling for Dollars! For the past two months, the men have dominated the top three spots—but not today. Two women claimed first and third place, while a very happy gentleman rolled into second!

Our participants absolutely love bowling, and with energy like this, we’re even more excited to plan an upcoming bowling outing. Stay tuned for more fun on the lanes! 🎳

In honor of Flag Day, our participants had a special visitor—Betsy Ross herself! ✨

Our Recreational Therapy staff made sure this year’s annual visit was one to remember. Betsy shared a bit about her life, from being born in New Jersey to living a full life of 84 years. With a little help from George Washington, she famously designed and sewed the very first American flag.

Our participants truly enjoyed this fun and meaningful experience celebrating history, patriotism, and tradition together! ❤️🤍💙

This week, our dietitian Jen, speech therapist Jill, and Recreational Therapy team took participants on a flavorful journey to Trinidad! 🌴

Together, we explored traditional foods and got hands-on in the kitchen—starting with the challenge of peeling plantains (not as easy as it looks!). Once prepped, we sliced them and baked them with orange juice, brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg for a deliciously sweet treat.

Participants also enjoyed a hearty bowl of corn and vegetable soup, a beloved Trinidadian classic.

It was a morning full of learning, laughter, and amazing flavors—we had such a fun and enriching time!

One of our participants’ favorite activities is “You Be the Judge” ⚖️✨

During this engaging program, participants explore real-life court cases, review all the facts, and then dive into thoughtful discussion. Guided by prompts, they share their opinions and work together to decide what the final judgment should be—sparking great conversation, critical thinking, and plenty of lively debate!

What made it even more fun was our RT intern Megan from East Carolina University joined in wearing a special t-shirt—perfectly matched by one of our participants who proudly takes on the role of “Judge Judy.” With gavel in hand, she kept the discussion moving and full of humor, just like the real show! 👩‍⚖️💬

It’s always a courtroom experience to remember!

Our participants recently had a sweet and creative time painting ceramic piggy banks shaped like ice cream cones! 🍦🎨

They carefully selected their colors and added their own personal touches—deciding on sprinkles, cherries on top, and all the fun details that made each piece unique.

It was a delightful blend of creativity and fun, and the finished piggy banks turned out just as adorable as they are special! 💖
