It doesn't always start with a fall.

Sometimes it's an empty fridge. A missed pill. A shower that keeps getting put off. The small changes are often the first sign that a parent could use a little extra support at home.

We put together 10 signs to watch for — and what to do before things turn into a crisis.

A perfect 10!

We couldn’t be prouder of our office team and caregiver team. Our July client satisfaction score came in at a perfect 10!

This is what Every Person Matters looks like in action. The phone call gets answered. The schedule gets worked out. A caregiver takes extra time to really listen. A teammate jumps in to help. It’s the attention to the little things that makes people feel seen, heard, valued, and cared for.

To our entire team — thank you. This 10 belongs to all of you and reflects the care, heart, and commitment you bring every day.

Every Person Matters — and you show it.

Seeing what others need—and quietly stepping in to help. That's a quality I see over and over in the incredible men and women who choose caregiving as their profession.

Caregivers spend their days noticing the little things that make a big difference in someone else's life. So often, while they're focused on caring for others, their own educational and career goals get pushed to the side.

That's why I'm honored to share about the Jean Griswold Foundation, an independent nonprofit that shares the same roots and inspiration as Griswold Home Care through our founder, Jean Griswold. By providing scholarships that help caregivers earn their CNA, pursue nursing, and continue their education, the Foundation is investing in the very people who spend their lives investing in others.

Investing in caregivers is one of the best ways to invest in the families they serve. I'm thankful to be connected to a legacy that believes caring for those who care for others is always worth it.

Starting the conversation about extra help for a parent or loved one is often one of the hardest parts of the journey.

If your loved one is resistant to care, you're not alone. In our years of working with families, we've found that these conversations are rarely about stubbornness—they're often about fears of losing independence, privacy, or control.

In this article, we share seven practical tips that can help make these discussions more productive, compassionate, and focused on working together.

One of the things we enjoy most about community events is the opportunity to answer questions and clear up common misconceptions about senior care.

Recently, Jenna spoke with a family member who was surprised to learn that their loved one's assisted living community was recommending additional home care for extra supervision.

While this isn't the most common situation, it does happen. Assisted living communities are designed to support many residents at once and generally aren't staffed to provide one-on-one supervision when someone needs continuous personal attention for safety.

Every family's situation is different, and there are often more options than people realize. We love helping families understand how home care, assisted living, memory care, and other services can work together so they can make informed decisions with confidence.

If you see Jenna out in the community, stop by and say hello. She's always happy to answer questions—even if you're just beginning to explore what support might look like for someone you love.

"They provide all the support that is needed and beyond."

~ Keith, Family Member of a Griswold Client

Going above and beyond isn't about grand gestures. It's found in the little things—taking extra time to listen, noticing what brings a smile, offering encouragement, or simply being there when it matters most.

We're so grateful for caregivers who bring compassion, kindness, and heart to the families we serve each day. Thank you, Keith, for trusting us with your loved one and for taking the time to share your kind words.

We believe that growing older at home should be possible for as many people as possible.

That's why we're passionate about sharing the Keys to Aging in Place—simple resources, practical tips, and conversations that help older adults and their families navigate the journey with greater confidence.

Our hope is that no one is left trying to figure it all out alone. Sometimes the key is knowing where to turn, what options are available, or simply having someone who will listen and help guide the way.

We're honored to be part of a community that cares for one another and to help families discover the support that can make aging in place safer, easier, and more joyful.

A smiling voice really does make a difference!

Congratulations to our Care Coordinator, Megan, who won a Drift Cafe breakfast this morning for having the "Most Smiles When Answering the Phone!"

Now, to be fair... this award might have something to do with the fact that Megan answers A LOT of calls every day. Or maybe it's her wonderfully competitive spirit.

Either way, we're grateful for a team that answers every phone call with kindness, patience, and a genuine smile—whether it's the first call of the morning or the last call of the day. Because when families reach out, often during a stressful season, we want them to know they're talking to someone who truly cares.

One of the many reasons we chose to be part of the Griswold Home Care family was the foundation of faith and genuine appreciation for the people who make compassionate care possible—our caregivers.

Just one example of this is the Jean Griswold Foundation, which has awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to exceptional caregivers nationwide since 2022. Through this foundation, caregivers across the country can apply for scholarships to further their education in care-related fields. It's a meaningful investment in the people who care for others every day and a reflection of the values that have defined Griswold from the very beginning.

If you're a caregiver pursuing your education—or you know a caregiver who is—we encourage you to apply or submit a nomination.

Applications for the Winter 2026 Scholarship Program are open now through August 31.

See link in first comment to learn more, apply, or nominate.

When we invest in caregivers, we invest in better care for everyone.
