This September, in recognition of National Recovery Month, we’re sharing inspirational stories. Stories inspired by the very real, very human experiences that can shape a recovery journey.
Meet Candice, a 29-year-old mother of two and seasoned administrative assistant from Newark, Delaware.
For Candice, the hardest part wasn’t admitting that she needed help. It was saying it out loud. “I think I need help.” Just five words. She had rehearsed them in her head for weeks.
When she finally said them, nothing dramatic happened. The world didn’t stop. Nobody judged her. There was simply a conversation.
And for the first time in a long time, Candice didn’t feel like she had to figure everything out on her own. With the support of Brandywine Counseling & Community Services, she had someone walking alongside her.
Candice is a fictional character. Her story is inspired by the very real experiences of people navigating recovery.
