Limen Recovery and Wellness

Limen Recovery and Wellness Limen Recovery and Wellness is a sober living residence, established in 1969, for men and women in recovery from drug and alcohol dependency.

Our mission is to offer a threshold to recovery and break the cycle of addiction in service to our community. Success through Partnerships and Generous Donors

In addition to generous contributions, many ancillary services are necessary to provide our clients the best opportunity for long-term recovery. Our valuable partnerships with other social service agencies in the community help our program

be as successful as it is over the last forty years. These agencies include: Kirkwood Detox, Child Inc., Connections CSP, SOAR Inc., TASC, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Food Bank of Delaware, AIDS Delaware, the YMCA, Catholic Charities, Goodwill and West End Neighborhood House. The above list is not all encompassing and we are proud that Limen House is at the forefront of coordinating services within the community.

Whether someone has attended before, supported from afar, sponsored in the past, or is just learning about Limen, this event is one way our broader community helps sustain the work of recovery and wellness.

Recovery does not end with one decision.

It continues through ordinary days. Through routines. Through conversations. Through moments when support is needed again and again.
That is why continuity matters.

People need more than a starting point. They need places, relationships, and rhythms that help them keep going when the path is uneven.

At Limen, we believe recovery takes shape over time.
The goal is not a perfect path.
The goal is a supported one.

Addiction is often misunderstood as a lack of care, discipline, or concern for others.
The reality is more complicated.

Addiction can change how a person copes, connects, responds to stress, and makes decisions. It can narrow someone’s world until asking for help feels difficult, even when help is needed.

Understanding this does not remove responsibility. It helps create a better path toward support, accountability, and change.

The more we understand, the better we can respond with both honesty and compassion.

Addiction affects more than one person.

Families and loved ones often carry fear, confusion, hope, grief, and exhaustion at the same time. They may want to help but not know what support should look like. They may be trying to understand where care ends and control begins.

Recovery can bring families into a different kind of learning.

Learning how to support without carrying everything. Learning how to rebuild trust slowly. Learning that healing often takes time for everyone involved.

No one should have to navigate that process alone.

Many people try to recover in silence before they ever ask for help.

They may believe they should be able to figure it out alone. They may worry about being judged. They may not know where to begin.

But recovery was never meant to happen in isolation.

Community helps people feel seen without being defined by what they have been through. It creates space for honesty, accountability, encouragement, and belonging.

At Limen, community is part of the work.

Because healing becomes more possible when people do not have to carry it alone.

Mental health and recovery support should be accessible, respectful, and rooted in dignity.

For many people, asking for help is shaped by more than personal readiness. It can also be shaped by culture, trust, stigma, past experiences, cost, transportation, family expectations, and whether support feels safe to approach.
Recoverydoes not happen apart from someone’s life.

It happens within the realities they are carrying.

At Limen, we believe dignity comes first. Support should meet people with respect, not judgment.

Recovery often begins before someone has the words for what they need.

It may begin with exhaustion. With a moment of honesty. With the realization that trying to manage everything alone is no longer working.

At Limen, we believe people need more than a quick answer. They need time. They need space. They need structure that helps them steady themselves and a community that reminds them they are not alone.

Recovery unfolds over time.

And no one should have to begin that process without support.

Addiction is often talked about through consequences.

What is sometimes less visible is how it changes connection.
People may begin pulling away from conversations, routines, relationships, and places where they once felt grounded. Not always because they do not care. Often because shame, fear, or exhaustion has made connection feel harder to reach.

Recovery helps create a path back.
Back to honesty. Back to support. Back to community. Back to the parts of life that addiction can slowly separate a person from.
