I've been thinking a lot about transitions lately.

As a therapist, I often help people navigate life's biggest ones—becoming parents, grieving loved ones, healing from trauma, changing careers, or rediscovering who they are.

But this week, I found myself appreciating a different kind of transition.

The one that happens between the morning rush and my first client.

Those few quiet moments in the car. Taking a breath. Letting go of the to-do list. Becoming grounded before stepping into a space where someone else entrusts me with their story.

Being a mom and a therapist are two roles I love deeply. The transition between them isn't always seamless, but it reminds me how important it is to pause before stepping into what's next.

What everyday transition has been on your mind lately? I'd love to hear.

Life is full of transitions—the spaces between where we’ve been and where we’re going. 🌿

I’m so excited to introduce my new blog series, 'Reflections from the In-Between,' a place to pause, reflect, and grow together. Our first reflection, 'Navigating Life’s Transitions,' is now live on the website.

Whether you’re navigating a career change, a new stage of parenthood, or simply a season of uncertainty, know that you don’t have to walk through it alone. Seeking support is a sign of strength.

Fatherhood changes you, too.

As Father's Day approaches, it's important to remember that becoming a father is one of life's biggest transitions. Along with the joy and pride that fatherhood can bring, many fathers also experience stress, anxiety, grief, relationship changes, sleep deprivation, and the pressure to "hold it all together."

While much of the focus during pregnancy and postpartum is rightfully on mothers and babies, fathers are navigating significant changes as well.

Seeking support is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of strength.

When fathers receive support, families flourish.

If you or someone you know could benefit from a supportive space to navigate life's transitions, I am currently accepting new clients.

Many adults are surprised to learn that Sandtray therapy isn’t just for children — and that EMDR isn’t only for acute trauma.

In reality, both modalities can be incredibly effective for adults navigating long-standing stress, grief, birth trauma, relationship wounds, or patterns that feel “stuck.”

Trauma isn’t just something we think about. It’s something the nervous system carries. And sometimes talking through it isn’t enough.

EMDR and Sandtray offer a different way of healing — one that engages the body, memory networks, and deeper emotional processing.

This work is intentional, trauma-informed, and paced with care.

If you’ve been curious about a more experiential approach to therapy, I’m happy to answer questions or schedule a consultation.

So many people move through trauma, grief, or big life transitions quietly—often without the support they deserve.

I help parents, young adults, and families who are navigating:
• Pregnancy or infant loss
• Birth trauma
• Postpartum anxiety or identity shifts
• Childhood or relational trauma
• Emotional overwhelm or “I don’t feel like myself”
• Major life transitions and turning points

Through EMDR and Sandtray Therapy, we work gently with both the mind and the body to release what feels stuck, rebuild safety, and reconnect to a deeper sense of self.

If you’re moving through a hard season, you don’t have to do it alone.

Finally taking a moment to share from this past Sunday’s Wilmington, NC Out of the Darkness Walk for Su***de Prevention. This was the first official community event for From the Ashes Counseling, and it held so much meaning.

Walking alongside survivors, families, and supporters was a powerful reminder that even in the lowest moments—when someone feels down on luck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by despair—help is available and healing is possible. No one has to move through those moments alone.

From the Ashes Counseling will be walking this Sunday in the Out of the Darkness Walk — a movement that reminds us that even in the heaviest seasons of grief and loss, light can still rise.

We walk for the ones we’ve lost, the ones still fighting, and the families learning to live again.

Wilmington Friends! Mark your calendars for October 29th from 5pm to 9pm and plan to eat Chipotle for dinner. This is the Chipotle in Monkey Junction beside Home Depot, Techniques in Motion and Fuzzy Peach. Money raised will go towards Postpartum Support International and Postpartum Support International-NC so that we can continue to provide valuable resources for mothers, fathers and families as they navigate symptoms of postpartum anxiety, depression and other mood disorders.
