πŸ“š As many families in Johnson County are getting ready to head back to school, here's a reminder that kids often need time to adjust.

The first few weeks of school can bring big emotions, new routines, separation anxiety, and lots of testing boundaries. Those behaviors don't make a child "bad." They make them human.

Children are learning how to manage emotions, navigate change, and build new routines. A little extra patience, consistency, and encouragement can go a long way.

What's one thing you do to help make the transition back to school a little easier?

πŸ“’ Delaware: We Need Your Voice!

HB 425 proposes increasing the national certification salary supplement from 6% to 12%, aligning compensation with that of National Board-Certified teachers. However, the bill currently includes only school nurses and school counselors.

School-based occupational therapy practitioners maintain advanced national credentials and play a critical role in supporting student participation, accessibility, and independence. They deserve equitable recognition and compensation for this expertise.

Professional organizations representing speech-language pathologists and school psychologists are already mobilizing efforts to advocate for inclusion. This is an important opportunity for Delaware OTPs to come together and ensure our profession is not left behind.

What can you do?
Contact the sponsors of HB 425 and respectfully advocate for an amendment that includes occupational therapy practitioners and other specialized instructional support personnel.

Together, we can elevate the voice of school-based OT in Delaware. πŸ’™πŸ’›
