Why you feel wired at night?

Cortisol and melatonin operate on an inverse relationship. When cortisol stays high into the evening — which it does when magnesium is low — melatonin is suppressed. Your body can't get the signal that it's time to wind down. That wired-but-tired feeling at 11pm isn't a sleep problem. It's a mineral problem.

This is what consistency looks like.....

Not every routine looks perfect. Some nights it's just you, your magnesium, and 10 minutes of quiet. That counts. That's the routine.

Looking to understand what happens when you take magnesium for 30 days?

So were we!!!! Here is the research

Week 1 — Your nervous system gets quieter
Magnesium glycinate crosses the blood-brain barrier and begins blocking NMDA receptors — the excitatory switches that keep your brain firing when it should be winding down. Glycine, the amino acid it's bound to, adds its own calming signal.
Most people notice: falling asleep faster. Less mental chatter at night. It's subtle. It's real.

Week 2 — Cortisol starts to regulate
Stress depletes magnesium. Low magnesium amplifies stress. It's a loop — and week two is when you start breaking it.
As magnesium levels in soft tissue rise, the HPA axis recalibrates. Evening cortisol drops. Melatonin rises on schedule. You stop feeling wired at 11pm for no reason.

Week 3 — Muscles actually let go
Calcium triggers muscle contraction. Magnesium enables relaxation. Without enough magnesium, the off-switch is broken.
By week three, people notice the things they'd stopped noticing: less jaw tension, fewer leg cramps, looser shoulders, faster recovery after training. The body starts releasing what it's been holding.

Week 4 — A new baseline
99% of your body's magnesium lives inside cells and bone — not in your bloodstream. Rebuilding those stores takes time. Four weeks of consistent intake is when the deeper reservoir starts to shift.
This is the week people describe a feeling that's hard to name: steadier energy, calmer reactions to stress, sleep that actually restores. Not because something is masking the problem — because the problem is actually being addressed.

Consistency is the only thing that makes magnesium work.
One tablespoon. Every night. Thirty days. That's the routine.

You deserve to know exactly what you’re putting in your body.

The wellness industry has a trust problem. Proprietary blends that hide ingredient doses. Capsules packed with fillers. Labels that look impressive until you actually try to research what’s in them.

Goldenroot exists because we got tired of it too.

Here’s exactly how we think about formulation and why it leads to products that actually work.

Principle 1: Bioavailability First
A supplement is only as good as what your body can actually absorb. This sounds obvious, and yet most of the industry ignores it completely. The bioavailability of magnesium oxide (the most common form on the market) is roughly 4%. That means if you’re taking a 500mg capsule, your body is using about 20mg. You’re quite literally flushing the rest.

We formulate in liquid. Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s the most effective delivery method available. Ionic liquid minerals are already in their most bioavailable form; no digestion required, just rapid uptake.

Principle 2: Fulvic Acid as a Mineral Transporter
Fulvic acid is a compound found in rich, humic soil and it’s one of the most interesting ingredients in modern nutritional science. In simple terms, fulvic acid acts as a cellular es**rt. It’s small enough to pe*****te cell membranes and helps carry minerals directly into cells, where they can actually do their job. It also enhances the gut’s ability to absorb nutrients and has antioxidant properties that support overall cellular health.

Principle 3: Clean Labels, Meaningful Doses
We don’t hide behind proprietary blends. Every ingredient in every Goldenroot product is listed clearly, with the exact amount included.
We also don’t add things just to make the label look impressive. If it’s in our product, it’s there because it has a role to play at a dose that’s meaningful, not token.
No artificial colours. No unnecessary fillers. No ingredients you’d need a chemistry degree to pronounce.

Principle 4: Formulated as a System
Our products are designed to work together because your body doesn’t operate in silos. GLDN magnesium supports sleep and nervous system recovery. Our creatine + HMB supports performance and muscle repair. Together, they address the full cycle of what your body needs: to perform well, to recover fully, and to do it again.

This is what we mean by “your routine.” Not a single product you take occasionally, but a system that supports how your body actually functions morning to night, training day to rest day.

We’re not here to sell you on the idea of wellness. We’re here to help you build a routine that delivers it.

The 10-Minute Nighttime Routine That’s Actually Changing How People Sleep.

→ Here’s a truth nobody wants to hear: the reason you’re not sleeping well probably has nothing to do with your mattress. It’s what’s happening in the hour before you get into bed.

The good news? You don’t need a 47-step wellness routine or a $400 sleep tracker to fix it. You need 10 intentional minutes and a few small shifts that signal to your nervous system: we’re done for the day.

Here’s the routine that’s been working for thousands of people — and the science behind why it actually helps.

Minute 1–2: Dim the Lights (and the Screens)
Your brain is wired to associate bright, blue-spectrum light with daytime. When you’re scrolling your phone at 10pm, your body thinks it’s noon.
Start your wind-down by switching to lamps, lowering your screen brightness, or turning on night mode. If you can put the phone in another room entirely — even better. This one change can shift your melatonin production earlier and meaningfully improve how quickly you fall asleep.

Minute 3–5: Take Your Magnesium
This is the anchor of the whole routine — and the step most people are missing.
Magnesium is involved in over 300 functions in your body, including activating the GABA receptors responsible for calming your nervous system and regulating the melatonin that governs your sleep-wake cycle. Research consistently shows that people with higher magnesium levels fall asleep faster, sleep more deeply, and wake less throughout the night.
The catch? Most people are deficient — and most supplements are poorly absorbed.
We created liquid magnesium glycinate with Rejen — a third of a capful is all you need. Liquid means faster absorption. Glycinate means it’s the form your body actually uses for sleep. It’s the simplest part of the routine and quietly the most powerful.
“I thought magnesium was just for muscle cramps. Two weeks in and I’m sleeping through the night for the first time in years.” — GLDN community member

Minute 5–7: Do Something That Isn’t a Screen
Read a physical book. Write three things you’re grateful for. Do a slow stretch. Make a to-do list for tomorrow so your brain can let go of it tonight.
The goal here isn’t productivity — it’s transition. You’re giving your brain a clear signal that you’re shifting modes. Choose whatever feels calming to you and do it at the same time every night. Consistency is what makes it work.

Minute 7–9: Cool the Room
Your core body temperature naturally drops as you move toward sleep. You can accelerate this by keeping your bedroom between 65–68°F (18–20°C) — a range consistently associated with better sleep quality in research studies.
Crack a window, turn on a fan, or swap to lighter bedding if you tend to overheat. This is one of the highest-leverage, zero-cost changes you can make.

Minute 9–10: Breathe
Close with 60 seconds of intentional breathing. The 4-7-8 method is a favourite: inhale for 4 counts, hold for 7, exhale slowly for 8. The extended exhale activates your parasympathetic nervous system — the branch responsible for rest and recovery.
It feels almost too simple. It works.

The magic isn’t in doing all of these perfectly every night. It’s in doing them consistently enough that your body starts to anticipate sleep before your head hits the pillow.

Routines build biological expectation. When you take your magnesium, dim your lights, and do your breathing at the same time every evening, your nervous system learns to cooperate. Sleep becomes less of a fight and more of a default.
Start with the magnesium. Build the rest around it. Your routine is yours — we’re just here to make it a little easier.

Struggling to sleep? Learn why magnesium glycinate is the most recommended form for better rest, and how Goldenroot’s liquid formula takes it even further.

Your routine starts here. And it starts tonight.

If you’ve ever typed “why can’t I sleep” into Google at 2am, you’re not alone. Millions of people are lying awake, cycling through racing thoughts, restless legs, and the kind of light, fragmented sleep that leaves you more tired than when you started.

Here’s the thing: it’s often not a willpower problem. It’s a mineral problem.

Magnesium is one of the most essential minerals in the human body, involved in over 300 biological processes — including the ones that tell your nervous system to calm down and let you sleep. And yet, research suggests that up to 75% of Americans aren’t getting enough of it.

“Magnesium acts like a natural brake on the nervous system. When levels are low, that brake stops working.”

Not All Magnesium Is Created Equal.
Walk into any health food store and you’ll find a wall of magnesium options. Oxide. Citrate. Malate. Threonate. The choices are overwhelming — and the differences actually matter.

Magnesium oxide, the most common (and cheapest) form, has a bioavailability of around 4%. That means for every 500mg you take, your body absorbs roughly 20mg. The rest is doing nothing.

Magnesium glycinate is different. It’s bound to the amino acid glycine, which does two important things:
→ It dramatically improves absorption, so more magnesium actually reaches your cells
→ Glycine itself has calming, sleep-promoting properties — giving you a double benefit in one form

This is why sleep specialists and integrative health practitioners consistently recommend glycinate over other forms when the goal is better rest.

So What Is It That Magnesium Actually Does for Sleep?
Magnesium plays a direct role in the sleep process — not as a sedative, but as a regulator. Here’s what’s happening in your body:
→ It regulates melatonin
→ Magnesium helps control the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for your sleep-wake cycle. Without adequate magnesium, your body struggles to signal when it’s time to wind down.
→ It activates GABA. GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is your brain’s primary calming neurotransmitter. Magnesium activates GABA receptors — the same ones that sleep medications target, but through a completely natural pathway.
→ It reduces cortisol. Stress and sleep are locked in a vicious cycle: stress depletes magnesium, and low magnesium keeps your cortisol (stress hormone) elevated. Replenishing magnesium helps break that cycle.

Bottom line: magnesium doesn’t knock you out. It removes the obstacles that were keeping you awake.

Why Liquid?
Even within glycinate, not all delivery methods are equal. Most supplements come in capsule or tablet form — which still requires your digestive system to break them down before any absorption can begin.

Liquid magnesium — especially in ionic form — bypasses that process entirely. The minerals are already in their most bioavailable state, ready to be absorbed the moment they reach your system.

Think of it this way: a capsule is a locked box. Liquid is the key already in the door.
Enter rējen by Goldenroot... At Goldenroot, we paired rējen specifically for people who are done with supplements that sound good on paper but don’t deliver in real life.

Our liquid magnesium glycinate uses ionic mineral technology to maximise absorption from the first drop. It’s enhanced with fulvic acid — a natural compound that acts as a mineral transporter, helping nutrients cross cell membranes more efficiently.

The result is a supplement that works with your body’s chemistry rather than hoping your gut does all the heavy lifting.

Now for you Routine:
The best supplement is the one you actually take consistently. That’s why we built GLDN Magnesium to slot seamlessly into your evening routine — a third of a capful, 30 minutes before bed, and you’re done. No horse pills. No chalky aftertaste. Just a simple, daily ritual that compounds over time.

Because the goal isn’t one good night’s sleep. It’s building a routine that makes every night better.
