Professional Biography
Kevin Keough, Psy.D, is a 64 yo native Delawarean living in Wilmington, Delaware.
Dr. Keough earned a B.A. Degree with Distinction, with a major in psychology and a minor in philosophy, from the University of Delaware. He earned a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from Baylor University graduating with a 3.85 GPA.. While at Baylor University, Keough served three different 50-week placements including a community mental health center, Waco Veteran’s Administration Hospital, and the Baylor University Mental Health Division.
He served an internship in clinical psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Mental Health Division. in clinical psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Mental Health Division. Keough was credited with changing the group therapy model at the center to a Yalom-style here-and-now approach. He was supervised by psychiatrists and psychologists in short-term psychodynamic therapy, behavioral medicine, and medical psychology and psychopharmacology.
Dr. Keough completed his first year of post-doctoral supervision toward licensure as a staff psychologist at Western State Hospital; with an appointment to the University of Virginia Medical School, Department of Psychiatry, as an associate professor in psychology. Keough developed and supervised a new dual diagnosis program for the most volatile and disturbed patients in the hospital. He oriented and co-supervised psychiatrists in training doing rotations on this unit. Dr. Keough created and used an instrument to be used to track patients’ progress called the MIDAS or mental illness-drug abuse assessment scale.
Dr. Keough completed a second year of post-doctoral supervision working as a Staff Psychologist in a juvenile prison in Delaware within the Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services. He supervised one psychologist working toward licensure, social workers, and front-line staff, consulted with division administrators, and coordinated psychiatric care with several psychiatrists. Keough provided a broad range of psychological services for residents. He served as a consulting clinical psychologist until 1996.
Keough initiated self-employed private practice in 3.1991 working in a private practice group called Associates in Health Psychology for about 2 years providing a range of psychological services to a broad range of patient populations.
Keough established the Marriage and Family Center of Delaware(MFCD)in 1993 (www.facebook.com/marriagesthatastnow) providing a broad range of psychological services including formal testing, initial assessments, and individual, couples, and family therapy. He worked with adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds with a broad range of presenting problems.
During this time Dr. Keough developed extensive collaborative relationships with family physicians. internists, and psychiatrists including a partnership with a board-certified adult psychiatrist for nearly ten years. He served as a consultant to schools, local businesses, insurance companies, and various community organizations.
Dr Keough was a consulting psychologist at Salesianum School from 9/1994-2005 working with administrators, faculty, staff, and students. screening and referring students to family doctors and/or local psychiatrists and psychologists Dr. Keough taught an Advanced Placement Honors Psychology course from 2003-2005 at Salesianum. He currently works as a substitute teacher
,Dr. Keough traveled to the University of Denver to obtain training in the PREP approach to couples counseling developed by Dr. Howard Markman and Dr. Scott Stanley ( www.prepinc.com) Keough integrated this model in his work with couples and later incorporated it into “Divorcing Parents Program” (https://www.facebook.com/DivorceSmarts) he developed. Keough was twice honored by the State of Delaware’s Division of Prevention at their annual convention where he presented this model program.
Dr. Keough served as Chairman of the Delaware Psychological Association’s Political Action Committee from 1994-1996. Keough was active in the Delaware Psychological Association’s Continuing Education Committee; bringing nationally recognized psychologists to Delaware for workshops and seminars. During this time he met with federal, state, and local politicians to advocate for parity in insurance coverage for mental health services. Additionally, he consulted with local businesses in successful efforts to educate decision-makers about the benefits and cost-effectiveness of providing employees insurance coverage for mental health services. He worked extensively with the DuPont Company employees during a protracted and difficult period of downsizing and outsourcing in the 1990s visiting each of Delaware’s DuPont sites to conduct workshops during scheduled mass layoffs within the company
Keough was instrumental in getting BC/BS managed care administrators within Delaware’s second-largest employer (at the time) -MBNA- to increase from 6 to 25 the number of yearly outpatient psychotherapy visits that would be reimbursed.
Dr. Keough established the Police Psychology Consultation Center (PPCC) and related website in 1994-2005. The mission of the Police Psychology Consultation Center was to ensure that police administrators and rank-and-file police officers and their families had access to comprehensive, competent, and integrated mental health and family services/resources/information. Dr. Keough served more than 20 different law enforcement departments during this period. Keough performed more than 1000 pre-employment psychological evaluations, numerous fitness for duty evaluations, critical incident and lethal shooting debriefings, consulted with police administrators, and participated in 150-200 police ridealongs
During this time, .Dr. Keough was an associate of the Special Psychological Services Group (SPSG) under the clinical supervision of Dr. Neil Hibler, the nation’s largest and most respected network of police psychologists.. Dr. Keough consulted with the New Orleans Police Department, police administrators, and police officers providing crisis counseling, coordinating treatment with a local psychiatrist, and doing ridealongs with police officers for roughly 10 days immediately following Hurricane Katrina
Keough founded Light Therapy Company (https://www.facebook.com/lighttherapycompany/) in 9/2014 following 20 years of intensive personal and professional investigation of light therapy and negative ion generators as treatment interventions working with www.sunbox.com and www.bio-brite.com
Dr. Keough conducted roughly 100 Podcast Audio Interviews with prominent authors and leading figures in contemporary culture from 2006-2010. He launched the North Star Guardians Podcast and Warrior Traditions Podcast in 2007 with the assistance of Deborah Harper, owner and president of Psychjourney.
Dr. Keough founded the Delaware Consulting Group in 2008 and transitioned from his traditional role as a licensed psychologist with a fundamental shift to work as an educator, consultant, coach, and public advocate for the delivery of evidence-based prevention-early intervention educational modules covering “cradle-to-grave” topics. work as an educator, consultant, and public advocate for the delivery of evidence-based prevention-early intervention educational modules covering “cradle to grave” topics.
