Mouth sores (oral mucositis) can occur with many chemotherapy treatments, but your risk may vary depending on treatment type, treatment intensity, and individual patient factors, such as oral health and previous cancer treatment.

For some patients, mouth sores can develop early and affect eating and drinking, and when severe, can delay chemotherapy.

Understanding this possible side effect before chemotherapy begins allows patients to talk with their care team about what to expect and discuss proactive options such as oral cryotherapy.

Preparing for chemotherapy often includes learning about possible side effects.

Mouth sores (called oral mucositis) are one side effect that can affect the mouth during treatment.

Patients can talk with their healthcare team BEFORE chemotherapy begins to better understand what symptoms to watch for and options to help protect the mouth during treatment.

Starting chemotherapy soon? Some patients use oral cryotherapy, which involves cooling the mouth during and after chemotherapy to help reduce the risk of mouth sores (oral mucositis).

Cooling the mouth during chemotherapy helps limit how much chemotherapy reaches the mouth, helping protect oral tissues.

If you're preparing for chemotherapy, ask your care team if oral cryotherapy could be appropriate for your treatment plan.

The Chemo Mouthpiece® medical device is FDA 510(k) cleared and intended to cool the oral mucosa to reduce the incidence and severity of chemotherapy induced oral mucositis in adult patients. It is available by prescription (Rx only) through your healthcare provider.

It was a long journey to Melbourne, but was well worth the trip! 🇦🇺

One of the things we value most about attending MASCC is personally connecting with the oncology supportive care community from around the world. The conference provides unique opportunities for in-depth discussions, idea exchange, and learning from colleagues who are passionate about improving supportive cancer care.

Our sincere thanks to Vikas Dembla MD, FACP for presenting his short talk, "Device-Based Cryotherapy as an Effective Intervention in Mitigating Oral Mucositis in Patients Being Treated with Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs)."

This presentation was part of a broader discussion on oral mucositis and other emerging toxicities associated with ADCs. As these innovative therapies become increasingly common, the supportive care community is working to better understand their unique toxicity profiles and evaluate approaches that best support patients throughout treatment.

We are encouraged by the growing body of data and increased interest in the use of device-based cryotherapy to help reduce the burden of oral mucositis during chemotherapy treatment.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Booth #15 to meet our team and learn more about the Chemo Mouthpiece® oral cooling device. Special thanks to Louis A. Grandelis and Jeff Tremel for representing our team and helping make this year's meeting such a success.

We would also like to thank Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer - MASCC and the ISOO - International Society of Oral Oncology for hosting another outstanding conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

We look forward to continuing these important conversations and seeing everyone next year in Rotterdam, Netherlands for MASCC/ISOO 2027.
