Lettie Crocker Ray, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Lettie was born in Johnston County on August 3, 1937, one of twelve children, to the late Johnnie and Nellie Boykin Crocker. She was married to the late Nathan Ray who preceded her in death in 2022.

She loved the Lord and was a member of Mount Zion Original Free Will Baptist Church in Kenly, North Carolina. For years she has enjoyed the online services.

She was a devoted loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She had a twin sister, Betty Crocker House. The bond and love between these twin sisters was truly amazing. She always enjoyed spending time with her family. Her family was her whole world.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Nathan Ray; sisters, Annie Narron, Ethel Johnson, Rosa Parker, Met Sullivan, Ora Pittman, and Elsie Boykin, and her brothers, Raymond Crocker, Raeford Crocker, Leonard Crocker.

She leaves behind her twin sister, Betty House (Eugene) and daughters, Sharon Ellis (Craig) and Annette Eatmon (Bexley); granddaughters, Hannah McArtan (Andrew) and Heather Crutcher (Matt); grandsons, Jordan Eatmon (Taylor), Bradley Eatmon, and Drew Eatmon (Amanda), and her great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Allie McArtan, Mason and Chase Crutcher, Jackson and Abby Eatmon.

Entombment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2026 in Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington Street, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion OFWB Church, 9300 Johnson Farm Road, Kenly, North Carolina 27542.

Our family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hal Woodall and his staff and 3 HC Hospice Home Care for their kindness, comfort, and exceptional care shown to our mother during her final days.

Elizabeth “Faye” Harrell Mitchell, 79, of Wilson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose life was marked by unwavering faith, deep love for her family, and a kind spirit that touched all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Joyner’s Funeral Home in Wilson. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Rev. Steve Strickland and Danny Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 4, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home.

Faye was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be remembered for her steadfast faith in God, her unconditional love, and the encouragement she gave to those around her. Her life reflected grace, devotion, and strength, and her legacy will live on through the children. family she cherished so deeply, and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.

She is survived by her children, Michael Jones (Tracey), Cheryl Lyons (Andy), Dwayne Jones (Brenda), Charlotte Beck, Richard Mitchell, Al Mitchell Jr. (Tracy), and Elizabeth Dawson (Tony); sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Linda Mercer (Windy); numerous loving nieces and nephews; and her cherished fur grandbaby, Bella.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, A. Lane Mitchell, parents, Kinchen and Marjorie Harrell; her brothers, Danny Harrell, Paul Harrell, and Rodney Harrell; her son-in-law, Michael Beck, and her grandson, Seth Rothrock.

Kelly Elaine Quigley Smith, 54, of Sims passed away Monday, June 1, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S Circle Drive, Rocky Mount. A private burial for the family will be held. Rev. Dr. Michael Coppock will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon prior to the service from 1 – 2:45 p.m. at Englewood United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount.

Kelly is survived by her loving husband of thirty-two years, Dewayne Smith; son, Jackson Smith, wife Lauren, and their children, Brinley and Brady; daughter, Caroline Smith Johnson and husband Tyler; daughter, Abby Smith; parents, Sam and Carolyn Quigley; brother, Jay Quigley, wife Amy, and their children, Landon, wife Emily, and Nathan, wife Brittany, their son, Henry; as well as her sister-in-law, Cherie Hogue.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Blanche Quigley Wallace and Samuel James Quigley, Sr. and her maternal grandparents, Rennie and Mabel Eatmon.

Although she fought cancer for thirteen years, that did not define her. She faithfully served others and words cannot describe what she meant to her family. Kelly was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, grammy, friend, sister and so much more.

Kelly graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1990 and went on to get her Bachelors of Science in Middles Grades Math from North Carolina Wesleyan College. She was a member of Bailey Methodist Church and was a true demonstration of a woman of Christ.

Lois Marie Smith, 93 of Wilson passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026. The family will have a private burial.

Marie loved cooking for her family and friends. She was a faithful servant to her Lord, her favorite activity was praising him and reading the Bible. Marie loved her husband of sixty-two years with all of heart and missed him dearly after he passed and the love for her children had no bounds. Marie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her, she will be dearly missed.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Diane Myrick and husband, Jack, Vickie Waddell and husband, Kenneth, Faye Davis and husband, Steve and Connie Viverette; sons, Danny Smith and Ronnie Smith; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Kenneth Smith; sons, Timmy Smith and Patrick Smith; sister, Shirley Auston and her brother, J.C. Penny.

Landon Ray Ratley, 19 of Kenly passed away. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at St. Mary’s Church, 8456 Saint Mary Church Road, Lucama. Rev. David Kriger will officiate.

Landon is survived by his parents, Everett and Kayla Mead of Kenly; sister, Bethany Ratley of Kenly; brother, EJ Mead of Kenly; grandmother, Lois Callaway of Goldsboro; aunts, Penny Pruitt and husband, Roy of Clayton, Nancy Hogue of Jacksonville, Florida and April Blackwell and husband, Bobby of Lucama; uncle, Charlie Callaway and wife, Diamond; great-grandmother, Nancy Reed of Frederick, Maryland, and his fur baby, Furball.

Dolan Henry Atkinson

Dolan Henry Atkinson, 90, of Lucama passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2026. He requested that in lieu of a funeral or visitation, a graveside service be held to celebrate his life. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026, in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Kelley Smart will officiate.

Dolan was a devoted family man, community leader, and friend to many. His life was marked by service, kindness, generosity and strength. A dedicated worker, Dolan was employed at Lilley International until the remarkable age of 85. He truly loved his job and was a mentor and friend to many co-workers and customers. He was a proud member of the first volunteer fire department for the Town of Lucama. He also served the Town as mayor for eight years, where he was known for his integrity and commitment to the town he loved. Beyond his work and civic duties, Dolan found joy in cooking meals for his Little Rock Church community and caring for his beloved cats.

Dolan is survived by his son, Michael Atkinson and wife, Ginny of Wilson; grandsons, Brandon McMurray of Lucama and Garrett Barnes of Wilson; son-in-law, Ricky McMurray of Lucama; and sister, Edna Williamson and husband Donald of Kenly.

Dolan was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-eight years, Betty Atkinson; his beloved daughters, Deborah Clayton and Donna McMurray; sister Edith Askew, and his parents, Nathan and Ruth Atkinson.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Shelia and Sharese and the staff of Parkwood Village as well as Megan Spivey and the staff of Gentiva Hospice.

Charles Malcolm “Mac” Twisdale, 54 of Stantonsburg passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice of Goldsboro.

Mac was a loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew and uncle. His greatest legacy was his love of family.

Mac is survived by his wife, Gail, his three children, Zachary, Rebecca and Gretchen; parents, Sheila and Jimmy Lamm; brothers, Jamie (Maria), Shannon (Joyce), Scottie, and Kevin (Penny); along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his dog, Jake.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Refuge Trinity Holiness Church, 6108 Justin Trail, Elm City. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2026, in Chase Family Cemetery, Patetown.

The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday evening from 6 – 6:30 p.m. at Refuge Trinity Holiness Church, Elm City.

Shirley Joyce Grissom Hamilton

Shirley Joyce Grissom Hamilton Cahoon passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Wilson, North Carolina.

Born on October 26, 1935, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Shirley was the daughter of the late George Lester Grissom and Edith Jennings Grissom. She graduated from Gastonia High School and began a life marked by dedication to family, service, travel, and lifelong learning.

In 1954, Shirley married Walter William Hamilton and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she worked at North Carolina State College. The couple later moved to Garner in 1959 and then to Chapel Hill in 1963. During her early career, Shirley worked for a lumber company that acquired an interest in a business in the Amazon region of Brazil. Her work involved reviewing stock issuances and accounting records, leading her to travel to Brazil on numerous occasions.

In 1974, Shirley began her career with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as Accounting Manager for UNC Physicians and Associates. During her 29 years with the university, she became known for her diligence and professionalism. Outside of work, she spent countless hours in the university library researching genealogy, a passion that ultimately led to the publication of a book documenting her family history. She retired from UNC in 1996.

Shirley was deeply involved in civic and fraternal organizations throughout her life. In 1981, she served as Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, traveling throughout every county in North Carolina and forming many lasting friendships. She was a member of Elizabeth City Chapter No. 44 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Shirley was also a Registered Parliamentarian with the National Association of Parliamentarians and generously shared her expertise with numerous nonprofit organizations, including participation in an international meeting.

A proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Shirley cherished both history and family heritage. She especially enjoyed time spent with her siblings and loved ones. An enthusiastic traveler, she visited many countries throughout her life, including Germany, Belgium, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, Holland, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago, Dutch Guiana, Mexico, and Canada.

Following her retirement, Shirley married Milton Vernon Cahoon, Jr. and moved to his family farm in Creswell, North Carolina, where she lived for many years until her health declined. She later moved to Wilson, North Carolina. Shirley was a member of Amity United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill and regularly attended Mount Herman United Methodist Church in Creswell.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter William Hamilton in 1988 and Milton Vernon Cahoon, Jr. in 2017; her brothers, George Albert Grissom and wife, Sylvia Howe Grissom, and Edward Gene Grissom and wife, Kathleen Hollowell Grissom; her sisters, Eva Ann Grissom Jones and husband, Nathan Lee Jones, and Judith “Judy” Kay Grissom Stewart; her brother-in-law, Wilson Eugene Glaze; sisters-in-law, Betty Hunsinger, Helen Hamilton Russell and husband, Charles, Sarah “Lucille” Hamilton Ramsey and husband, Grover, and Naomi Cahoon Futrell; brothers-in-law, Frank Hamilton and wives, Joyce and Ruth, and Durwood Cooper, Sr.

She is survived by her daughters, Edie Ann Hamilton and husband, Ahmed Shawky Aziz of Durham, North Carolina, and Billie Jean Hamilton and husband, Christopher Jeremie Lilley of Wilson, North Carolina; her grandsons, Alexander Hamilton Aziz and wife, Kelsey Laurenz of Leander, Texas, and Mitchell Garnet Evans, Jr. of Wilson, North Carolina; her sister, Caroline “Carolyn” Mae Grissom Glaze of Hickory, North Carolina.

Shirley is also survived by her sister-in-law, Alma Dean Cooper of Columbia, North Carolina; her stepchildren, Connie Cahoon Liles and husband, Joel of Garner, North Carolina; Kaye Cahoon Phelps of Garner, North Carolina; and Milton Vernon Cahoon III and wife, Angie of Creswell, North Carolina; former stepson-in-law, Larry Whitehurst of Garner, North Carolina; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Tracy Allen Sharpe, 58 of Wilson went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 24, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon prior to the service from 2 – 2:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.

Tracy was a devoted husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and uncle. He loved his family and friends with everything he was.

Born and raised in Wilson he basically knew everyone around and they knew Tracy. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tracy was a member of Swamp Buck Hunting Club for many years.

Tracy was an influential name in the Fox Hound Community. He taught many people how to work their hounds for shows and get puppies ready for trails. He was also a judge for many years.

Tracy is survived by his wife, Vickie Johnson Sharpe; daughter, Angel Pulliam; son, Christopher Sharpe (Kalei); granddaughter, Savannah Pulliam; brother, Jimmy Sharpe, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Robbie Best (Kim) and Wayne Best (Kim); nieces, Nichole Jimenez (Junior), Michele Best, Jessica Jonas (Corey) and Melissa Skinner (Chris); nephew, Scott Sharpe (Madison); eight grand-nieces; three grand-nephews; special adopted daughter, Laura Barnes and grandchildren, Madysen and Jayce Barnes and his uncles, Jay Sharpe and Jerry Sharpe.

He was preceded in death by parents, Jimmy and Carolyn Sharpe; grandparents; brothers-in-law, Bob Johnson, Bill Johnson; uncle-in-law, Tommy Griffen; in-laws Harold and Ann Best, as well as serval aunts and uncles.
