Mending the Soul

Behind the scenes at Mending the Soul

Something new is taking shape.

We’ve been hard at work filming a new collection of Mending the Soul training videos, including the MTS origin story, and we are incredibly grateful for the people and communities helping make this possible.

A special thank you to Willamette Christian Church, Beaverton Christian Church, and Hope City Church in Portland for coming alongside Mending the Soul and supporting this work. Your generosity and partnership help us create resources that equip facilitators, strengthen communities, and carry trauma-informed, Christ-centered healing into places far beyond this studio.

There is something powerful about watching years of wisdom, stories, training, and experience being captured so they can be shared with others. What is happening behind these cameras will continue serving people long after the cameras stop rolling.

And a huge thank you to our team and film crew who have poured so much into bringing this project to life.

We can’t wait to share what’s coming.

Healing the world, one relationship at a time.

Bringing the Kingdom Home

Healing doesn't ask people to leave their identity behind.

Across Indigenous communities, Native leaders are creating culturally relevant, Christ-centered spaces where truth can be spoken, shame confronted, and identity restored.

This year, leaders from 12 Tribal Nations participated in five training intensives. 33 new facilitators were equipped, and more than 100 Indigenous leaders and community members were reached.

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

One facilitator put it this way:

"I now know how to accept my identity as an Indigenous person who follows Christ. I can recognize the stronghold shame had on my life. I know God created me for so much more."

That's the heart of Native Mending the Soul.

Indigenous leaders are carrying healing home—to their families, their churches, their communities, and future generations.

The Kingdom is taking root through leaders who already know the language, history, beauty, wounds, and strength of their people.

Healing comes home. And then it multiplies.

From Trenches to Trees

Some of the places we once prayed to escape may become the very places God sends us back to carrying hope.

When Savannah first encountered Mending the Soul in 2009, she was a young mother of four, nearly seven years sober, carrying a lifetime of trauma she did not yet have language to name.

Healing didn't happen all at once.

It happened through safety. Through truth. Through relationships. Through people willing to reach beyond symptoms and get to the root.

What God grew from those beginnings would eventually transform the way Savannah parented, led, loved, served—and understood Christ.

Today, her prayer is simple: to carry healing back into every kind of trench she once had to crawl out of.

"I think about the seeds that were planted in the trenches I was in, and I am in constant awe of what God has grown from them."

This is what can happen when healing takes root.

One life becomes shelter for another.
One story makes room for another story.
And what began hidden beneath the soil becomes something none of us could have imagined.

The Kingdom is still growing.

Most people underestimate the things
that change lives.

A mustard seed.

A safe relationship.

A question asked with compassion.

A group willing to tell the truth.

A church that knows how to protect the vulnerable.

Jesus said the Kingdom begins like that.

We’ve seen him consistently fulfill that promise through
the years.

So many survivors learn to survive by becoming fiercely independent.

We carry the pain quietly. We convince ourselves we should be able to handle it. We tell ourselves that needing support makes us weak.

But healing often begins when we are finally safe enough to be known.

Mending the Soul groups offer a structured, biblically grounded and relational space where survivors can process trauma alongside people who understand the courage this work requires. MTS materials are designed to help faith communities create safe and supportive environments where healing can occur.

Healing is deeply personal, but it was never meant to happen entirely alone.

Some moments stay with you long after the trip ends.

Nicaragua was one of those moments.

Through our partnership with Resplandece Internacional, 57 pastors from 57 different churches gathered across multiple cities to learn how to better understand and respond to abuse. What unfolded wasn’t just training—it was something deeper.

There were tears from those who quietly recognized their own stories.
There were moments of conviction as leaders began to see what they had missed.
There were honest questions about what care and protection should really look like.

And there was hope.

For the first time, Nicaragua now has trained Mending the Soul facilitators—men and women ready to walk with others on a journey toward healing. What was once a conversation… a hope… even a fragile dream… is now taking root.

One of the most powerful moments came as each participant held a small clay jar, cracked it, and slowly put it back together—filling the broken places with gold and placing a light inside.

A simple picture.
A profound truth.

God does not waste what has been broken.

The light is already shining through the cracks.
