Just got back from a 3 day silent retreat.
No talking. No technology. No eye contact.
Just meditation, nature, and my own mind.
Silence exposes the things we spend our lives running from.
✨ Emotions are addicting. Stress. Urgency. Anger. Excitement. We chase them because they make us feel alive. What if we became addicted to our state of being instead?
✨ Contentment is revolutionary. The algorithm profits from our attention and emotional reactions. Peace feels uncomfortable because we’ve forgotten how to practice it.
✨ Urgency is often a story, not reality. Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that always being “on” meant we were safe.
✨ Animals and nature never search for purpose. They simply exist. Maybe we’re here to spend less time figuring life out and more time experiencing it.
✨ Most suffering isn’t created by what’s happening. It’s created by the story we’re telling about what’s happening. Presence isn’t clearing the mind. It’s noticing when you’ve left and gently coming back.
✨ The body carries stories. Different body parts and organs hold emotions and experiences we’ve been carrying for years.
✨ Communication, planning, and preparation can become addictions disguised as productivity. They keep convincing us that peace lives in the future. It doesn’t.
✨ We’re not underfulfilled. We’re overstimulated. Sometimes boredom is simply the nervous system detoxing from constant stimulation.
✨ Gratitude isn’t just a feeling. It becomes a way of being.
✨ Beneath the thoughts, emotions, and stories is something quieter: knowing. Learn to trust that.
Peace isn’t something you earn.
It’s a place you return to.
The present moment wasn’t missing.
I was.
BE ADDICTED TO THE STATE OF BEING, NOT THE STATE OF FEELING.
And so it is. ✨
