Our therapist, Chris Maassonneau, PT, CTP is now offering the Trager Approach at Thrive. It's a gentle, mindful movement and touch therapy that helps release deep-seated tension and rediscover ease in the body and mind. The method blends rhythmic, wave life movement and conscious awareness to create lasting changes in how you feel and move. It's recognized as a form of Somatic Movement Education and Therapy and valuable in the support of trauma recovery. If you want more information, see the link below and call the clinic at 540-532-9981 to schedule.

Our therapist, Savannah Benson, is now certified in Dry Needling. Dry needling is a procedure that involves puncturing the skin with thin filiform needles for therapeutic purposes. The physical therapist uses this needle to stimulate myofascial trigger points, which are areas on tension within the muscle tissue. The aim of this treatment is to manage musculoskeletal pain and movement issues. If this is something you feel you would benefit from, give our office a call to schedule your appointment: 540-532-9981

As PTs, we have used the sit to stand test to assess patient's strength, balance, and flexibility; but recent research suggests it also may reveal longevity. The test measures how many times you can rise to stand from seated in a 30 second time period without using your hands to assist. A score that falls below average for your age group (see article) could indicate poor health outcomes and a prediction of mortality. Lower scores point towards risk of falls or cardiovascular issues. The data did not take into account a new injury or surgery which would be limiting your mobility.

The sit-to-stand test takes just 30 seconds to complete, but its results can provide profound insights into your health.

For desk-based workers, PTs can highlight critical interventions to combat the health risks associated with prolonged sitting. Common issues like neck stiffness, lower back pain, and repetitive strain injuries can be significantly mitigated through targeted intervention. Give us a call to schedule an evaluation and we'll create a customized program and guidance to keep you healthy and pain free. 540-532-9981

Examples of ways to diminish issues with prolonged desk work :

- Taking frequent short breaks, using a standing or treadmill
desk
- Performing in-chair stretches
- Optimizing workstation setup

Many people don't realize that jumping back into spring activities too quickly can lead to preventable injuries. Overuse injuries develop gradually when people repetitively stress muscles and ligaments, which is especially common after periods of reduced activity. The therapists at Thrive PT highlight five key strategies to prevent spring injuries:
1. Gradually increase activity levels by no more than 10% per week
2. Perform proper warm-ups before any physical activity
3. Vary activities to avoid repetitive stress on the same muscle groups
4. Recognize and respond appropriately to pain signals
5. Use ergonomic tools and proper body mechanics for activities like gardening

The goal is for people to enjoy everything spring has to offer without pain or limitation, and the therapists added that a brief PT assessment can make the difference between a season of activity and a season of recovery.
