👶 Five facts every first-time family should know. Swipe through! ➡️

Babies grow so fast, and there’s a lot of milestone advice out there. Here are a few facts we share with families all the time:

⏱️ Tummy time: aim for at least 30 minutes spread throughout the day from birth. It builds the neck, shoulder, and core strength babies need to roll, sit, and eventually walk
🩺 Ear piercing: we recommend waiting until babies are at least 6 months old. Did you know we do ear piercings right here in the office? Ask us about scheduling at your next visit.
🥤 Sippy cups: start introducing around 6 months alongside solids. Limit juice and avoid bottles past 18 months
📵 Screen time: the AAP recommends no screens before 18-24 months (except video calls with family)
🚗 Car seats: Keep babies rear facing as long as possible, at least until age 2 or beyond if they still fit safely

Have questions about your baby’s milestones? That’s what we’re here for. Book a wellness visit online! 💙

🦈 Shark Week is here and even pediatricians are getting in on the fun
A few fun facts for your little shark fans:
🌲 Sharks have been around for over 450 million years (older than trees!)
🦷 They can go through 30,000 teeth in a lifetime (our patients are jealous with how many tooth fairy visits they get)
📸 Some sharks glow in the dark. This is a scientific fact and also amazing

Now, the practical part. If you’re heading to the beach this summer:
🏊Swim near a lifeguard
🛑 Avoid swimming at dawn, dusk, or night
💎 Don’t wear shiny jewelry in the water
🩹Stay out of the water if you have an open cut

Sharks get all the attention, but the real summer beach risks are rip currents, sunburn, and dehydration. A little awareness goes a long way. Stay safe out there! 🌊

🧭 Just a reminder that one of the best things in the world is right in our backyard.

The Middlesex Fells Reservation has miles of trails perfect for families, right on the edge of Wi******er. It’s shady, gorgeous, and it’s free. Added parent bonus: kids who hike regularly sleep better, too. It’s a win-win for the whole family!

Hiking Checklist 📝
💧 Lots of water (more than you think you need)
🧴 Sunscreen and a hat
🪲 Bug spray and a tick check plan for after
👟 Sneakers or trail shoes, no flip flops

After your hike, check everyone thoroughly for ticks: especially scalp, behind ears, and behind knees. Any questions about tick removal or Lyme prevention, give us a call.

☀️ Even with sunscreen and meticulous application, it can still happen 🥺 Here’s some tips and best practices for when your child gets sunburned.

Sunburns can sneak up fast especially with fair skin, water reflection, or a long afternoon outdoors. Here’s the at-home playbook:

💧 Cool the skin: a cool (not cold) compress or bath, no ice
🧴 Moisturize: aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free lotion soothes and hydrates
💊 Pain relief: children’s ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help with discomfort and inflammation
💬 Hydrate: sunburn draws fluid to the skin’s surface, so extra water helps
🚫 Avoid: “burn relief” sprays with benzocaine, butter, or petroleum jelly. These can make it worse

Call us if the burn covers a large area, blisters extensively, or your child has a fever, chills, or seems unwell. We’re here! 💙

🏊‍♀️ Peak pool season is here. Your water safety guide. Swipe through! ➡️

Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death in children, but most incidents are preventable. Here’s what every family should know:

🟦 Layer your protection: fencing, supervision, and swim lessons. None of these replaces the others
👁️ Watch actively: designated adult supervision means eyes on the water, phone down at all time
🏊 Swim lessons: the AAP recommends lessons starting at age 1 for most children
🧯 Life jackets: required on open water for non-swimmers; floaties and arm bands are not substitutes
⚠️ Know the signs: a drowning child often can’t call out; watch for a vertical body, tilted head, and quiet struggle

Save this one and share it. 💙 Have a safe and splashy summer!

🧸 Grab a bear, pack a snack, and head outside: it’s National Teddy Bear Picnic Day!

Pack a blanket, grab a bear (or a lovey, or a stuffed animal of any species), and head outside. It’s the kind of simple, screen-free afternoon that kids remember.

Fun little reminder: your child is always welcome to bring their favorite stuffed animal to their visit with us! It can make the whole experience a little cozier, for kids and their bears alike. 💛

Are you celebrating today? Tag us in your picnic setups! 🥪☀️

⚽ The knockout rounds are heating up, and so is the excitement! Who are you cheering for? 🌎🏆
Whoever you’re rooting for, the World Cup is one of those magical sporting events that brings people together across generations. There is something truly special about watching kids light up when their team scores.
We also love that soccer is one of the best sports for kids: it builds cardiovascular fitness, coordination, teamwork, and resilience all at once. Not a bad deal! 💪
