FREE MORNING OF INTERGENERATIONAL MUSIC!

Join us tomorrow morning, Wednesday, August 19th, from 9:30–10:15am at Warde Senior Living for a very special intergenerational music class hosted through the and provided by Granite State Music Therapy! 💙

The Windham Moms Alliance has been so kind as to cover the cost of our final summer music class, making this week’s class FREE for participants! 🎉

We’re inviting our GSMT community, from early childhood kiddos all the way up to older adults, to join us for a fun morning of music making, dancing & movement, singing, socializing across generations, and of course lots of FUN!

This is a special opportunity for little ones and older adults to share music, smiles, and connection together. Early childhood kiddos ages 0–5, older siblings, parents/caregivers, and older adults are all welcome!

Come join us as we wrap up the summer with a morning of music and community! ❤️

Granite State Music Therapy is looking for a passionate Music Therapist (MT-BC) to join our team, with full-time and part-time opportunities available!

Granite State Music Therapy is empowering lives through music across schools, healthcare settings, homes, assisted living facilities, day programs, and communities throughout New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine.

At GSMT, every day is different, and that’s what makes this work so meaningful! Our therapists work with clients of all ages and abilities and bring creativity, flexibility, clinical expertise, and collaboration to every setting.

What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or equivalency degree in music therapy
- MT-BC or eligibility to sit for the exam within 6 months of hire
- Strong clinical skills in assessment, goal development, and evidence-based intervention
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to collaborate with families, caregivers, and treatment teams
- Compassionate, professional, and collaborative approach
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Meet Sarah, GSMT’s first-ever music therapy intern!!

You may recognize Sarah from our July GSMT Monthly Newsletter, where we first introduced her and shared a little bit about her as she was just beginning her internship. Now that she’s officially celebrated her first month with GSMT, we wanted to give her another well-deserved shoutout!

We are so honored to have Sarah as part of our team and have loved watching her jump into new experiences, learn alongside our music therapists, and share her love of music with the people we serve. 💙

A New England native, Sarah grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts and completed her music therapy coursework at Westfield State University, where she also minored in Psychology and Spanish.

One of Sarah’s favorite practicum experiences was working in a special education classroom. She hopes to work with children after becoming a certified music therapist, while also looking forward to the variety of experiences and opportunities that her internship with GSMT will provide.

Sarah is excited to use her love of music to connect with and support others through music therapy. Her own musical tastes are wonderfully varied, spanning pop and jazz all the way to heavy metal and grunge. She also enjoys creating music of her own!

As part of her introduction in our July Monthly Newsletter, Sarah took the time for a short Q&A about her thoughts and feelings at the very beginning of her internship, as well as her goals, hopes, and favorite music therapy memories so far. If you missed it, now is your chance to get to know Sarah a little better!

As we continue wrapping up July, we're looking back on another highlight from this month, a wonderful piano recital featuring the students of Ms. Elizabeth's piano studio!

These students put on a fantastic performance, showcasing all of the hard work they've put into their lessons throughout the year. It was wonderful to see each student share their music with family, friends, and our community. We couldn't be more proud of everything they accomplished!

A special congratulations goes to our graduating seniors, Amelia Phillips and Luca Mercuro! Thank you for your years of dedication and for sharing your talents with us. It has been a joy to watch you grow as musicians, and we wish you all the best in this next chapter!

Thank you to all of our students, families, and everyone who helped make this summer’s recital such a memorable evening. We can't wait to see what the next performance brings! Stay tuned for details on upcoming recitals and events!

As we wrap up July, we wanted to share some of the fun we've been up to this month at GSMT!

To kick things off, we had not one, but two fantastic team gatherings this month! We started with an evening of Krazy Darts, axe throwing, and arcade games, a fun way to reconnect, laugh, and enjoy some time together! We also met up for coffee and a collaborative work session, giving us the chance to brainstorm, tackle projects, and catch up as a team.

For those who may not know, Granite State Music Therapy doesn't have a central office. Our incredible clinicians and educators travel to our clients, providing services wherever they're needed across our communities. While we love being able to meet people where they are, it also means we don't get to see each other as often as a traditional office team.

That's why opportunities like these are so special. They give us the chance to collaborate, support one another, share ideas, and simply enjoy spending time together. We're incredibly grateful for this amazing team and always leave these gatherings feeling refreshed and inspired.

This year marks America's 250th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than by reflecting on the incredible history of American music?

In July's GSMT newsletter, our fabulous Kelly Weaver, MT-BC, takes readers on a journey through the evolution of American music, from Stephen Foster's early contributions and Scott Joplin's groundbreaking ragtime to the rise of jazz with Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. She also highlights Florence Price's historic achievement as the first Black woman to have a symphony performed by a major American orchestra and explores how music continued to evolve through swing, the patriotic works of the 1940s, rock 'n' roll, the folk revival, hip hop, disco, pop, and today's genre-fluid, technology-driven landscape. Throughout history, music has served as a powerful tool for storytelling, self-expression, advocacy, and connection, and this article beautifully reminds us of the lasting impact music has had on shaping our nation.
